Paid for my new horse. Came to load him in my Bateson Ascot. They said breast bar must be down for him to go in. OK. Also, we could not put breech bar across on his side. We must take it out of trailer altogether!!. How dangerous is this!! They loaded him. The daughter and the mother. Bucket of feed which he ignored. Went in and out a few times. In end had to use a schooling whip. It said on ad he was 'good to box'. That is something of a priority to me. My husband and I are both pensioners and the thought of hubby lifting the ramp without the breech bar across is something that really frightens me. The previous owners have a Bateson with doors. I can see why now. Pleae some helpful advice would be most welcome.
If i had bought a horse which had to be good to load, then was not,i would not have the horse,i think you are right to be worried about the bar,if the horse was advertised as good to load and is not then you should be able to get your money back and take the horse back. Could you return the horse???
I wish people would advertise a horse as it is,saves all the hassle all round for the buyer and the horse being messed about.
This seems to be something they were fully aware of, and as a result lied when they sold him I don't wish to sound negative but I'd wonder what other 'issues' they may have ommitted to share Boxing problems unless deep rooted can often be solved, if you have the know how. Maybe they just couldn't be bothered to deal with his fear, and bought the Bateson?
