Hi all,
Ive got a gelding who is just coming up to 4 in about 6 wks and wondered if anyone has any experience of myler bits with youngsters? Until a couple of weeks ago he was ridden in a KK bradoon and was going along quite happily. However when it was time to take the bit out he started holding the link between his teeth, running across the stable and had to be coaxed each time to open his mouth to take it out.
I had the dentist to him yesterday who has suggested I try him an a myler bit to see if he is more comfortable but having never used one and because of the many different types could anyone give me any advice on the style best suited? I assume I will need a level one bit but am confused betweens the low port comfort snaffle and the wide barrel comfort snaffle- it all seems so confusing!!!!
Also his bradoon was a 5 1/4' so bearing in mind how a myler would lie in his mouth would I be best to try a 5'?
I really hope this makes sense!, and any help will be greatly greatly appreciated!!!!!
Thanks
Laura

Having had amazing success with my old horse in a Myler combination bit I used a Myler low port comfort snaffle with my arab when I started her. She didn't like it as much as I'd hoped but a lot obviously depends on the shape of the horses mouth and tongue. Because my old horse has a smallish mouth but huge tongue she really appreciated the low port but my arab has a small mouth and small tongue. |

Definitively go for smaller size - mine is in a 4.5" myler where he usually take a 4.75 bit.
He has a small mouth and largish tongue, so was uncomfortable in any bit until the myler. I use the MB04 comfort mouthpiece. The rest of the time, I ride in an English Hackamore.

I am just trying a myler comfort snaffle on a little horse I have recently purchased. I would usually only use a snaffle but this bit is working wonders |

I used a comfort myler on my gelding when I first started him as a 4 year old. It was fine for about 12 months until he got smart and found ways of evading it! A very nice bit though and one I will use on Merlyn when the time comes. |

The comfort snaffle mouthpiece seems to suit the Arab mouth - all my neds now have Mylers & are all very happy bit wise!

Nothing to report on the myler, but, my mare used to hate having the bit taken out and it took sometime to overcome, she would snatch and run from it, for some time I used to put my hand on the top of her head, between her ears and push down as hard as poss and then remove the bit/bridle, now she lowers her head and waits for you to take it out, in the old traditional way. |

I have a 4 yr mare, green broke. In last 6 weeks started to school more. I have been using a normal dressage snaffle. Flexion at the poll comes and goes. I read about myler bits and wondered if more tongue room would help. My local tack shop stocks `neue schule` bits. I chose a loose ring snaffle with joint in middle, like a barrel in middle. My very novice mare accepted after 10 min, unbeleivable! I now have poll flexion from a simlpe bit, maybe I rode different? Anyone had same thing? |
