Been mulling over what to do next about my saddle (or lack of saddle). Been going round and round in circles and not sure which way to go.

Looked at loads of different saddles on the net and read forum about saddles that (hopefully) suit arabs. Got totally confused

so, today I sprung into action ........ and booked my THIRD saddle fitter (a qualified saddle fitter) for Tuesday 8 May (not sure whether being decisive or just desperate and foolhardy)

So, asked them to bring
1. Wintecs - Isabella Werth, Pro Dressage
2. If pos Thorogood - Endurance, Dressage
3. Ideal - Jessica, Working hunter type
4. other Dressage/VSD or working hunter
5. AND a GIRTH as I have only a dressage girth
6. Size 16.5 poss 17, wide fitting and low wither

Sounds simple doesn't it?

place your bets .... good odds for a total c**k up

Might just get to ride before the end of Summer

Paula - saddles are a nightmare The Jill Thomas Thorowgood Endurance are designed for the Arab shape & do seem to fit well - my McTimmoney Chiro (horses & Humans) has a couple for her Arabs & she says that they are VERY good - the only saddles she would consider putting on her horses & shes tried many! You do need a long girth with then though.

I had one briefly - bought to back a horse & then only used about three times (not needed in the end as my Ortho-Flex were OK) - very nice & comfy! I have a long stretchy Wintec girth bought for the saddle - now no longer needed.....!

Donna - hope the list helps. Let us know how you get on

There were a few others that I would have liked to have had on the list !

Judith mentioned Reactorpanel before and I may try that or a WOW if this effort doesn't work out (I will need to remortgage first though)

I've also had nightmares in recent months with saddles-tried so many made so many mistakes-spoken to lots of different saddle fitters-all of whom throw their hands up in horror at my very round well sprung little 14.2hh mare with no withers.I've even been riding out bare back to try and shift some weight so the saddle will fit.I had a saddle made to measure but by the time it came she had expanded a little more and that didn't fit.The saddler took the saddle apart and put a point strap down the inside and fixed it there in an attempt to anchor the front behind where her shoulder should be and put in a ring at the back for a crupper!!!Thankfully we have not had to resort to that. Then one day someone suggested a Stephens Gel Eze pad. This very strange item reminds me of the slime jelly my son used to throw about----but it works. No more sliding off the back or worse onto her neck coming down a hill, the saddle does not move at all.Now I manage to hack out without having to walk most of the way .It's fantastic-I'm trying not to think of all the money I've wasted on saddles, fittings etc!!

Definately have a point strap!!

Brilliant for those flat backs with no withers.

Getting a saddle is tricky, the showing ones tend to have a closer contact with the back than others so fitting them i have found easier than gp/ event ones which always restrict their shoulders.

Good luck, but remember the point strap!

Hi Jill - I did notice your ad - but it is a 17 med/wide - I do need 16.5 and wide, thanks

Nashiba - I tried the gel eeze too with my other saddle, they do seem quite good. Also tried the limpet. But in the end the saddle just wasn't right !!

Dumb question - what is a point strap?

I spoke to my chiropractor today, She confirmed what I suspected - that the mare is okay with weight - we decided that the (second) saddle fitter was of the opinion that anyone over 10 stone should ride a horse of 16 hands !!

She uses reactorpanels and I think that if the next saddle fitting doesn't result in one of the dressage/vsd or wh types being suitable then I will remortgage the house or sell OH for medical experiments in order to finance it
