Just read jingo's hard life thread and I am totally jealous of her grassy field.

Getting a property with land in durham is very expensive and we were lucky to find ours before it came officially on the market so could afford it. The paddocks about 2 acres had been planted with conifer trees about 30 years ago and left to grow so no option but to get a buldozer in and clear it. a year later we brought the horses home but as a result the grass has never got a chance to get established.

Last year a neigbour offered us the use of his field on the other side of the lane to us great we thought a good 3 to 4 months for the paddocks to grow reseed etc and would you believe it the first chance for the grass to grow and we have the hottest and dryest summer for years.

So we are left having to put hay out all year but at least I have happy neds

Same with us not much at all..We have had to move ours on to a friends feild..It's been hard because we bought our land winter time when there had been cows on it so there was nothing left.
We are puting our post and rails up this weekend so we can manged the padocks better rather than leave them run all over it...

Got limited grass in the horse paddocks, fair amount in the sheep fields, getting greener in the hay fields and an abundance on the grass verges down the lane, b****y contractors will come and cut it all down soon though!!! - what a waste!!!

Must admit OH and I stood with the horses on the garden at the weekend just so they could get some of the green stuff. I've tried putting up the leccy fence and letting them lose, but where as Ghost just eats his way round Tara strips the bark of the fruit trees and starts running round daft

No, seems to be taking forever to come through, i am still putting hay out aswell. Just a bit of rain and i think it will be well away but until then, he is just nibling the top off as it grows.

Typical, that is has no problem growing on my lawn!

Fields . . . still sparse, Been considering doin' a Rain Dance in the hope the grass will grow in the paddocks, (this promises to be a sight for sore eyes, as everyone who knows me will agree - but if it works, who cares!) Really, really need to fertilize and re-seed but no point until rain!

Frustrating that there is Jungle deep grass in garden, (postage stamp size), weeds in abundance. You just can't win.

Scarces around here aswell (cheshire) they still going out but are having hay aswell. Really really need some rain this week (cant beleive I said that) our feed merchant is saying that people are
panic buying hay and haylage because they reckon this years crop of
hay is going to be scarce aswell, because of no rain and a predicted
dry summer again.

Watch this hay prices will shoot up again.

Hi

Loads of the green stuff, growing at rate of 6 inches a week very hot & wet here ideal conditions for grass, mowing garden twice a week, but it's short lived and we will be dry as a bone by June.

It looks like the fields don't have much grass at all but judging by my horses waistlines there is more coming through and being scoffed than I thought!

I re-seeded my gateways before I went on holiday over 2 weeks ago and since then there has been no rain

Thankfully the neighbouring farmer let his dairy cows out yesterday because their nitrogen fuelled almost flourescent green field is a source of huge jealousy for my horses. The quicker the cows eat it down the better, then my girls wont feel so hard done to

Our grass never went or stopped growing all winter. It's now lush as anything and I am TERRIFIED of it raining before I can get Amelia into the starvation paddock (loooog story which has been repeated on here ad nauseaum so I won't bore you all again!)

I mean, it looks nice enough for a human to try a nibble!

Not a lot here either. It started, then died a natural. I have halved his paddock in readiness and also to help the poached half recover but still waiting for growth. Not too disappointed as Freddie is a good doer so topping up with hay is probably better than lots of lush green stuff.

Plenty of grass.

Harrowed the winter fields and they have grass in them.

The hay fields are growing nicely too.

We must be lucky in Hampshire.
