OH and I have just spent 2 glorious days in Keswick. We're only about an hour and half drive away but its been years since I last went. And I have to say it didn't disapoint, its such a beautiful part of the country And to top it of actually got OH on a horse! Considering he aint to keen on the 4 legged beasties he volunteered himself up for an hours pony trek. It was a bit of a guilt trip actually as when he was working in Eygpt he was 'conned' into going on a ride round the pyramids, and ended up on a little skinny arab being dragged rounded the desert no stirrups no hat no control Something that really put him off and to top it I was FURIOUS! We're been together for 12 years now and he's refused point blank to sit on a horse. So after I promised him that trekking ponies are as safe as houses, he agreed. His mount was Paddy a lovely big doe eyed piebald cob, who only has eyes for grass and the pony infront of him
We rode up over the hillside in trekking pony style...nose to tail...happily following each other at a nice sedate plod. As we reached the top a RAF jet came about 150 foot over head, and the noise was HOFFIRIC! But these lovely laid back ponies didn't even flick an ear...I jumped more than they did
Heres Paddy and OH(I got the ears in properly this time Judith!)

A few scenic shots

And I couldn't resist the lil lambs

We were in the Lakes on Wednesday - glorious day - would have loved to have been on horseback. Had lunch in Keswick (Dog and Gun - can recommend - VERY good food - we often go there) then drove round Buttermere. I picked up a brochure about riding Shires and Clydesdales in the South Lakes and might well book in!!!

LOL We ate in the Dog and Gun last night Marilyn! The food was delicious! Fishermans pie Mmmmmmmm We went to a trekking centre nr Ulleswater, and yes I spotted the shire and clysdale riding centre, but there would be NO WAY OH would have got on something that big! When we pulled up to the stables there were 3 little welsh ponies tied up outside, about 11.2hh OH was convinced they we for us! nearly had heartacttack when he spotted the rather large boned Paddy clomping towards him!

The Lakes are about three quarters of any hour from me in a fast (ish) car.

Madmare and her OH and me are seriously giving thought to buying a pub lease up there in the not too distant future, or something similar, then you can all bring the nedlets, OHs and have a great day out if we get the place we have our eyes on!

I honeymooned at Lake Windermere and we visited Keswick, Kendall and Ullswater.

We stayed here, http://www.lakesidehotel.co.uk/ our room was the third window to the left of the large bay window. Champayne and Strawberries had been put in out room on arrival (nice touch) four poster bed, large sunken jacuzzi, fresh bath robes every day - you know the score .

It was heaven.

The jets low flying over the lake make me jump so hard I pulled a muscle!!! Wish someone had warned me .

crinks,
buy our village pub, things are getting abit dry round here. It's already got a hitching rail. The local riding school used to do pub rides before it closed.

Judith, he did a very good impression of John Wayne when he dismounted! He's only got 'ickle legs! But no he claims he wasn't at all stiff (personally I DON'T believe him...even I ached a tiny bit after sitting on my rather lovely but 'wide-load' cob
