Has anyone heard of the dangers of fescue grass to broodmares? I am not very clear on the subject and it is starting to concern me as I will be putting my mare in foal for the first time in a few weeks.
I understand that fescue grass can harbour a toxin that can cause abortion or even prevents the mare from knowing that it's time to foal and so the pregnancy is prolonged and the foal over-large.
Has anyone else heard of this grass? Is it something I should be concerned about - I wouldn't know if my field and hay contained it - although I think most do? Am I worrying unnecessarily?
