Hi!
I haven't been on here for ages as I've been so busy since starting a new job in January (where I can't log on at my desk) and working hard to finish my PhD thesis and do extra lecturing to help my cash flow..
Anyway, I submitted my thesis in January and I had my viva exam (defending my thesis to experts in the field) for my PhD last Thursday and I passed  !!!
So, after 3 1/2 years of hard work, once it's gone through the official channels I will now be Dr Nicola Claire Smith, PhD... Maybe it was all worth it !! Now can finally spend some time with my poor neglected (only of excess attention mind!) horses - and also have a foal due in a couple of weeks 
Thanks to all Arabianliners for keeping me sane while writing up!!!

I always fancied doing a PhD, just so I could be a 'Dr', but I didn't want to spend another three years being broke! |

Thanks all for your congrats
My PhD is in biomechanics and I now have a great job as a biomechanist doing research into all sorts of injury mechanisms etc so am actually using the skills I've acquired which is a bonus in this day and age!!
Was certainly a long hard slog but worth it in the end and luckily I do enjoy what I do and my family have been amazing supporting me when it all got a bit much at times (especially my fantastic mum helping me with the horses).
Looking forward to getting out a bit this year and hopefully see some of you around soon |

Fantastic news Nikki, well done and congratulations.
I think you've been really brilliant giving up your showing and horsey pursuits while you dedicated yourself to your studies. Commendable indeed. So I hope we're going to meet each other in the ring again this season!!!
