Roseanne - the estate are apparently stopping their pheasant shoots!!!! Being in the thick of sheep country - talking to neighbour apparently hugh looses of new lambs this time due to foxes.......another near neighbour does vermin control (shooting of foxes for farmers) he is busier than ever this year - the fox population is getting out of control..... |

The estate here breed pheasants for shooting, poor bloody birds are so tame, they hardly get out of your way when you walk passed them, what sport is there in that ? then they have to pay someone to beat the bushes to make them take to the air so they can then shoot them! the game keeper here is an awful man who shoots anything he can, he just loves to kill things and delights in shooting deer he even threatened to shoot my dog! ( mind you there are times I wish he would take a pop at this bloomin heron) |

Lynda, good luck with the wire and wotnot, will be interested to hear if it works. Our pond is really quite big and was filled with fish, we put wire at one end to stop him walking in but I suspect he landed straight into the water despite opinions to the contrary. Once he had decided that was his patch, he staked it day and night for nearly a year. He even slept here all winter , I only had to look out of the bedroom window and he was off though. Eyes like a hawk! He took every single fish we had, the temptation to shoot him did cross my mind, but I just couldn't ~ plus there is a £2k fine if you get caught ! We now only have mirror carp which are a native breed, impossible for us to see so not much good as an ornamental fish. The pond is completely covered in lillies and weed, plants etc but he still stops by quite often for a little snackette!
By the way did you receive my email about the chilled stuff ?

Lynda, I'll send you my son, he's lovely but very very noisy, up at first light, and doesn't fall asleep until dark. He scare anything away, mind you you might have to fish him out of the pond afew times bit accident prone. The joys of been 5. |
