Is it happening to everyone the same as is happening to me? at this time of the year when all new life is seen around me I have this great feeling inside, that everything is going to be ok I have just seen tadpoles in my pond, bumble bees are buzzing around, the birds are going at it hammer and tongs ( singing I mean) buds are breaking out on the trees and there is no stopping spring , there is no going back now

That lovely feeling of the very early, bright morning sunshine reminds me of getting up at daybreak in the summer for shows!!! Shame I've got a stinking cold at the moment... |

Thanks Lynda, it's a classic nose cold! It's one of those frustrating days where I'd love to be making the most of the warm sunshine, riding and sorting things but feel washed out! Never mind - still two days of the holiday left and the horses are loving it out there with rugs off and new grass to nibble. |

Pro's and con's of spring/summer:
Pro's first: Grass for the neds; The smell of newly mown lawn; New life everywhere - birds, bees, lambs, foals, etc.; A lease of life for older animals - they just feel so much better when the sun shines; Long, long evenings to ride or to bbq and share with good friends; Riding or taking the dogs out for hours without freezing or getting soaking wet; Shows, racing or any event that you enjoy doing with your family.
Con's: Hard, cracked ground; Midges and other annoying insects - any others you can think of??
Great thread Lynda!!!

Same here, the lambs are out in the fields, we have a new foal to play with and another on the way (rescue mares both in foal) the deer are coming up from the woods to have a nose around the place, we have a barn owl and a few other winged visitors around now, and the grass is growing that fast you can almost hear it! Neds want to be out all day and night, but not just yet!
Son in law has almost finished the new garden design at the back for me, bought loads of new plants yesterday and planted them alll out as well.
As you say Lyndi Life is good and the sun is shining! BBQs with friends sharing a bottle of wine with the neighbours at the end of the day and just unwinding in the garden, sitting in the big hay meadow with just the grass, buttercups and clover (better than any session with a therapist!)planning all the nice things to do, and getting about the country paying calls and going to all the parties I seem to have racked up invites for!
The woods are starting to come back to life now, the trees have 'fuzzy' edges ot them and the bluebells will be out soon, and then the children from the village will be down to the stream to see what they can catch, the crayfish will be in mortal danger I think! We can go and see the badgers and watch the new babies (if there are any this year) and then later wait for the does to bring their babies up to the farm to be introduced to humans and horses! |

Yes there is always a down side to everything I put my horse back out after tea and thought they would love to be out toinight then saw them tearing around and all trying to rush the gate! so I went out to see what was wrong and they had a cloud of midges around them, they were frantic to get back in ! so down gardening tools and grab headcollors, all back in again ! Also the warm weather has brought the heron back to my pond, I caught him red handed this morning and he had had a few fish I am afraid little devil got any good remedies for getting rid of herons? |

Lynda, the heron will eventually leave when he has eaten ALL your fish . I know this from personal experience as we have an enormous pond and the blighter lived on it for about 2yrs and gradually cleared it out completely. He still pays us a visit every now and then on the off chance that we might have restocked, fat chance, we couldn't afford to! It is now home to numerous frogs and newts and surrounded by quite a wild garden so we have lots of wildlife and even the odd snake in to visit sometimes ! There were bats flying around my head at dusk out by the pond last night, what with that and the sound of the frogs I felt as if I were in the tropics instead of Buckinghamshire! I love these long days, absolute bliss. Ground is unbelievably baked on top now, but quite damp just below the surface. My girl is out 24/7 now without a rug and doesn't even want her tea.
Ps she goes for her scan on Tues so fingers crossed I should have an update for you then.

Bats are good for sure ! I love our garden, it's a haven for wildlife unlike our next door neighbour who appears to have razed his to the ground in some sort of scorched earth policy . I think he's objecting to our interpretation of the cottage garden gone native look !

There's a few bats on here,no only joking! The Heron probably the same one had four of our fish lately,I caught him red-handed too and watched him gobble up one of my favourites.NOW I have bought a plastic look-a-like Heron called Beaky, this is supposed to thwart returned visits from the real thing.Have to say he has not been back yet, even my beagles don't scare this wotsit.Actually he was, tall, dark and handsome and had a lofty look about him, cheeky old fish eater! |

Good way of keeping heron away from fish is to get some of the green garden wire and put it across pond from different directions. Hardly notices but keeps him out of pond. I found one grabbing my favourite fish once, Cat spooked him and then the cat run off with it for his dinner before i could grab it |

Hey thats a good idea, I caught him again this evening he obviously thinks its a good place to pop in for a meal, I wouldnt mind but my next door neighbour has several ponds and a full size lake complete with boat house island, and more fish than you could shake a stick at, why does the heron pick on our little ponds |

OH has three sheep.
One had twins last thursday. then I went to check them Saturday and found another little white bundle bouncing around.
Just one left to have her baby
Very sweet little things
But ... twins are boys, so I'm afraid it will be mint sauce
