I am so upset. My husband was cleaning out the aviary and the wind caught the outside door and somehow one of our cockatiels managed to escape. I was able to follow him into the next field and was trying to coax him down.
He then flew back as if he was going to go back to the aviary but he kept on flying over until I couldn't hear him calling anymore.

My husband feels really bad and I keep thinking about him being out there all alone.

I am going to put out leaflets tomorrow....

Also weird - I was out riding on Saturday and heard what I thought was a person shouting, perhaps at kids, in a strange voice. Then I thought it was geese. Then I realised it was saying actual words.

I looked up and there was a huge macaw on the top branch of a tree, squawking, and shouting 'hello' !!!

I'm not often stunned, but that time, I was.

Jack didn't give it a second look.....

Geegee, I really hope you get him back. Let all of your local vets and RSPCA know too, just in case someone catches him and 'turns him in'!

Keep us posted won't you?

Kelly

Hope you get him back... leaflets etc is a good idea, my friend once caught a lost budgie while we were out riding and we had a terrible time trying to track down his owner.

No sign yet, I did wonder whether he would try to make his way back today, to see his brothers and sisters

I just hope that he has exhausted himself and lands in somebody's garden. My biggest fear is that he has met the hawk

A similar thing happened to a friend of mine---her cockatiel was found a couple of days later too exhausted to fly about 2 miles away, so your best hope is to notify everyone local who might possible be contacted if he is found---vets, animal santuaries, people who keep/breed birds---even the dog warden. My friend's was taken into the local pet shop to see if they knew who he belonged to---and they did because she had put a poster up there.

Fingers very firmly crossed here for a happy outcome.

Oh Lisa how awful. The exact same thing ALMOST happened to my old cockatiel...fortunately she was too fat to get far and OH caught her as she nose dived into neighbours rosebeds! My friends bird flew out of the kitchen window and turned up days later, a man heard him shouting "Wheres Billy?" from a tree, caught him and brought him straight back Ask your postman/paperboyanyone thats works in your area to keep a look out/Ear out. They are so vocal if he's around they will know to listen for him. Good luck x
