Sitting her feeling as sick as a dog! Burglars broke in via an alarmed building and locked tack room and stole everything I own. It has taken years to gather all the bits & bobs I had. My horses now have only the rugs they were put to bed in! Saddles, bridles, rugs, riding hats etc etc the list is endless. The worst is a dear friend had loaned me an Arabian In Hand bridle which belonged to her favorite horse and was kept for sentimental reasons ~ it's gone!!!
As is usual the insurance I have will not be enough to cover everything, you never think of the small items which were only a few pounds but add up to a lot when gathered together. At a rough guess I would say I'd lost somewhere in the region of 2 & half grands worth of equipment

I'm so sorry. The shock and the unfairness of it must be as bad as the actual money. I will be thinking terrible thoughts for the people who think they can just break in and help themselves to things that you have worked so hard for.
I hope the police can be of help.
Best wishes and supportive thoughts winging their way to you.

How awful I feel so sorry for you! I had a grooming kit nicked worth about £50 and that just p***ed me off but to have everything taken especially sentimental things must be soul destroying!! I hope they get caught but knowing life they won't!
It is very hard to put a price on all the things you have but everyone should do an inventory and add things as they buy them so at least you can insure everything although without receipts they will only give you what they think its worth which really bites! |

deepest sympathies!!!! It is awful that people can just take items that you have worked hard for without even a second thought! GRRR How about putting a list on here of things you require and if anyone can sell cheap/loan you anything to see you through until you get the insurance sorted? (Just an idea). I certainly have a lot of bits and peices that need a home. |

So sorry to hear of this. Cant imagine how you must be feel. Least it wasnt the horses! I would keep an eye out in any papers or markets etc selling stuff that could be yours espec the arbian bridles as they are unique. Also maybe get in touch with local riding schools as they may try to offload the stuff to them? Putting a list up may help as im sure all of us have got piles of stuff we dont use!!

Thank You All so much for your sympathies and offers of loan equipment, it is VERY much appreciated. They did leave my head collars and ropes and I have also discovered my heavy weight NZ rugs were left drying outside the tack room...lucky!!! At least the 3 of them can still go out and be warm and as someone said my horses were left alone. The police have said they will try and get a slot on Crime Stoppers but lets be honest it's very rare anything is ever recovered!!!
Shirley this is the 4th time the farm has been hit! At least this time it was just the tack room, previously 3 masked men broke into the house and threatened the owners with crow bars, they got away with cigarettes and a very small ammount of cash and stole a car, a few months back an Ifor Williams trailer was stolen, it had full security on it! CCTV camera had been tampered with so no evidence. Quite a few places have been hit of late...sickening. The owners are so sick and paranoid they have been talking about selling up. This is unthinkable for me having been my 2nd home for the last 17 years!!!
Suyen, Thank You for the offer of an in hand bridle, if things don't get sorted I will be in touch.
The only items that are distinguishable are the in hand bridle: black patent leather with diamante studs running up the cheeks, brass coupling chain and black leather show lead, it's the bridle on my chestnut in my signature, needs enlarging if anyone can do that for me?
One saddle was made to measure by Oakfield saddlery, santana working hunter, 17" seat but it has 17.5" panels which is unusual, brown, wide to X wide fit.
Padded saddle pad, blue. difficult to describe but it was bought to me from my sisiter when she lived in New Zealand, sentimental value!!!

Im so sorry to hear your bad news. What is wrong with some people? The world is a terrible place sometimes. Just remember, there are more nice people out there than there are horrible people. I agree that at least they only took replaceable items. You cannot replace your horses.
My thoughts are with you.

So sorry to see this post. There are some folk on this planet that really shouldn't be here if you get my drift. When our yard was broken into a couple of years back I kept telling myself - at least they didn't touch the horses, but that doesn't stop you feeling sooooooo cross. The law did catch a chap and pin our brake in to him, I think he got about 12 months, but we never saw any of our tack ever again...... I hope you have better luck Georgia.

Hi Lynne... Im really sorry to hear about your bad news. I have also been a victim of this sort of crime before, and Im afraid that there is never much chance of getting your things returned unless you can definitely prove that it is yours, or any kind of compensation even if they do catch the people responsible. A few years ago when I kept my horses on a small livery yard in Greenside, somebody walked into the stables and my stable rugs and headcollars were stolen, along with a load of other stuff belonging to the people who owned the yard. We had to do all the usual kind of stuff like going down the police station to give statements, they actually found out who the thieves were and many months later the case come to court. We had to hang around all day and I was actually dreading having to stand up in there and make a statement (not that I knew anything of use, only that I could say that my stuff had been stolen). Anyway cut a long story short, the guy responsible was a real villain well known to the police and with loads of history for this kind of theft. He pleaded guilty at the last minute for an easier sentence and so the court was adjourned before it began. He probably got away with a fine or a very short time inside, but was offered NO kind of compensation for my stuff. I was lucky that it wasnt much in value and was quite easily replaced, but there is a lesson to be learnt somewhere in there. I know we are all guilty of leaving so much of our gear in tack rooms even if locked up. I guess the best thing to do is to make sure that all your really valuable or irreplaceable stuff is kept at home. Just another idea, and Shirley you may know about this - but are there any horse mart or tack sales coming up in the region in the near future, like at Ponteland?? May be worth an idea to check. But if there is anything I can do Lynne, then do let me know okay...

Thanks Again to all. Fyona, I will be going to the mart on Saturday. It's a very long shot but you just never know?! Spoke to NFU today and a claim form is on the way but as I said before I was well under insured, probably about half of my equipment hopefully will be replaced by insurance. I guess the rest will come again in time.... My OH & I had a good laugh today we got a refund cheque from BT for the princely sum of 15p!!!! Wey Hey all our money worries are over!!!

Lynne,
Tried to phone but engaged!
There are 2 more sales in February, one Ponteland and one at Acklington but I honestly don't think they will be there, too close!!!
You could ask the Police to attend the sales over Carlisle way as some stolen goods from this area have been found there more than once. Its worth a try.
I am reliably informed (don't ask) - I worked at Ponteland Auction Mart for a few years - all stolen horse equipment went either to Ireland or down South. Oh and all stolen Trailers from the South went to the Borders or into Scotland. A friend who deals in trailers sold a new trailer to a lady who gave it as a present to her daughter who lived in Basingstoke. 3 WEEKS later he was looking at this trailer to buy and it was the same trailer. He said he didn't have the whole amount of cash with him and would they come back later. Needless to say the police picked them up.
If you need a riding hat to be going on with, I have a couple of spare, one velvet show type and a lightweight Endurance one. The one I was wearing that day we went for a ride. Santa was good to us this year, new hats.

Hi Shirley, Sorry I was probably sitting in the internet! Been searching for replacement equipment!!! The hat would have been good but without saddle, bridle or even a bit to use it's not much use. I do trust Haree & Georgia implicitly and would go out with just headcollar and ropes but the traffic is not too reliable!!! I haven't ridden since Dollar either so my balance won't be too good at the mo! I had planed to get them all back into work in ready for shows etc but I guess it will have to go on hold again! Remarkably I'm not very upset or even angry anymore?! I think working long hours and doing the gees has taken it all out of me, I'm to knackered too care. My friend was extremely good about the loss of her in hand bridle but that's not to say I wouldn't love to get it back for her.
Speak to You Soon Lynn
