I've owned Countess Carley for around 10 years now (she's 17 year old this year, born in 1990). She is by Idris (sire = Dargemet, dam = Sadi) and out of Countess Magnet(sire = Magnet, dam = Countess Charomay). I don't know much at all about arab bloodlines but have been told that Idris was shown a bit and was a grey. I have added Countess Carley onto www.allbreedpedigrees.com so the rest of her family are on there .
I was just wondering if anyone knew my mare before she was owned by me? Her reg certificate says she was bred by a Mr P Donoghue. I know that the people I bought her from had her from about the age of 4 and didn't really do anything with her but they did say she had a foal before they had her. Does anyone know of this foal?
I would also appreciate any info or pictures of her dam or sire.
Any information on her would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Carly

Hi Carley
You have a really lovely mare and I would have thought that she carries a very high Crabbet percentage. I have updated the pedigree that you have put on all breeds, and hope that you find it interesting. Idris was chestnut, not gray. If I am able to find any other info, I'll be back. In the meantime someone else on this thread might have the relevant stud book regarding the foal. Do you know if it was a pure bred foal? |

Thanks very much. Have you any idea where I might find a photo of Idris? I don't know if the foal was pure bred, I had assumed it would have been but am not 100% sure. Haven't really got much detail at all sorry. I did have the Arab Horse Society call me a couple of years ago to ask how many foals she had had so I assumed they must have her on some kind of register of brood mares. Is this likely to be the case?! |

Hi Carly, I've checked the stud books for you, and there is no record of a purebred foal, or of her being covered by a stallion of a different breed. She could have had a foal but if it was a purebred, its not registered.
Whereabouts are you ? I'm from Mid-Glam originally, and now live in West Wales, as you have a ridden mare have you thought about joining Ridden Arab Group Wales ?
I'm secretary and never miss an oppoturnity to grab a new member !
You might like to take a look at "star of the Show " thread where there is a photo of Nia Shadow who is half sister to your mare, also an excellent performance mare. Hope that helps Mandy |

Thanks very much for all you help. Can't believe how much info you've managed to give me in one morning!! She may not have had a foal then - I think I'll give up on trying to find her foal!! Great that I've seen a pic of a half sister of hers though and I have sent an e-mail to the owner of Nia Shadow to show her some photos of Carley.
I live in Pontypridd now but Carley (the horse-we've got the same name-confusing I know but I didn't name her honestly!!) is kept in Groesfaen on livery. I have been in Aberystwyth for the past three years in uni and so has Carley-couldn't go without her-but we are both back home now!!!
I didn't know there was a Ridden Arab Group Wales! What does the group do and how much is membership? The only problem is that I have no transport to get her to shows myself. I do go to shows as a friend takes me when she is competing but she owns a cob so is unlikely to take me to Arab shows!!
I have managed to find an e-mail address for Daphne Cocksedge so have sent her a message to ask her about Idris.
Thanks so much for all your help,
Carly |

Hiya Carly,
Lovely mare, i have a picture of Idris, he was chestnut. Will get it scanned in, and post it for you.
I'm not far from you (Cardiff), and like you have no transport, maybe we can pitch in together?
Sadly i couldn't make the show(flu again)
Cheers Nikki |

Thanks Nikki. It would be great to see a photo of him. Also would be really good to share transport if there are any shows we both want to go to. Cardiff isn't far from me at all. Where abouts in Cardiff are you? Let me know if you are planning to go to any of the Ridden Arab Group Wales shows and we could try to arrange to go. I would definitely like to join when I find out more about it.
Lokk forward to seeing the photos from you,
Thanks again,
Carly |

Hi Carly, glad you liked the photo, there are more on the RAGW website.
We run various ridden events through the year, you've just missed our winter show, next up is "What not to Wear " preparing your horse for ridden showing, a whole day of Classical Riding Club dressage in June probably some Trec training and our Autumn show which may well be in Pencoed so not so far from you.
Over the winter we have lots of interesting talks etc, our next one is on 31st March, we have a specialist equine vet talking on the inherited diseases of arabian horses, if theres time she'll also look at tying up etc.
So though it would be nice you don't have to bring your horse to join us, Let me know if you're interested and I'll email you details

I would love to join so would be very grateful if you could e-mail the details of joining to me. Nikki on here is from Cardiff so we may be able to share transport to some of your shows. The equine vet talk on the 31st sounds really interesting but I definitely won't be able to make that. I am in my first year of training as a McTimoney Animal Therapist so would have loved to have come to that but I am in college that weekend studying!! Also my mare has tied up twice before so would have been interesting to listen to anything she had to say on that. Oh well, will have to try to make it to your next event.
Will have a look at the RAGW website tonight.
Thanks,
Look forward to hearing from you,
Carly |

I have been on Datasource and there is no mention of her having had a foal but they are not right up to date. Do you know approximately when she had this foal? |

She may not have had one at all, it's just that when I bought her the previous owners said thay thought she had a foal before they had her which would have been in 1993 or 1994. It doesn't sound very likely now though unless it wasn't registered as there is no trace fo any foal |

We have a half sister also-albeit an anglo arab. She was bred by the same person as your mare and we found out quite by accident that she too had had a foal at 2years old.Subsequently she has only matured at barely 14.2hh and based on the TB bloodlines she carries alone she should have been between 15-15.2hh.The foal was not registered as he was sired by a coloured stallion that "got in".She is very like your mare to look at and has fabulous paces.I have ridden her for several years but she is in foal this year and then I think my grandson has his eye on her.You should join the Ridden Arab Group-the Winter Woolies Show was great and everyone is really friendly and there will be loads of events planned for later in the season although I expect by now you will have looked at the website. If you need any more information Mandy will give you my contact number . |

I think this horse appears in your pedigree, used by Tadsor and Grandsire of El Attorlando... and also a Chestnut. COUNT DORSAZ. |

Does anyone know anything about the man who bred my mare, a Mr P Donoghue? Does anyone know if he still breeds? Would like to get in touch if anyone has an address. Wondered if he had any pictures of my mare when she was younger? I've got the address from her registration cert. but this was from 17 year ago!!! |

Hi, very lovely mare you have!
According to database the breeder was Mrs M.P. Donoghue, UK. Here is all her listed breeding:

Thanks for that info. I thought maybe my mare had been bred as a one off as I'd never heard of the breeder but it looks as though she bred my mare's mother and grandmother. Really interesting to find all of this out. |
