My poor mother had her beloved spaniel Ellie put down late last night.
She was a rescued springer (to replace their previous rescued, horribly beaten having just had pups, springer with no teeth and one eye) anyway, she was the bounciest, sweetest (if not a little clumsy) dog that they ever had. When they first got her, if you laughed too loudly or shouted across the house she would promptly squat and pee wherever she was, people had scared her that much. Anyway soon she realised that nothing was going to hurt her anymore. But, over the last year or so it seems that everything physically was packing up.
There have been terrific arguments between my parents as my mother wanted Ellie put down asap and my father wanted to keep trying. Anyway, she went downhill rapidly last night and the vet discovered a huge tumour. So that was it.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a dog needing a wonderful home in the countryside, an aga to sleep infront of with long walks every day and someone at home with them all day (father won't leave them for longer than 2 hours).
Thet have always got another dog very quickly before as it helps to distract them from the loss.
They have 2 other dogs and a cat.
Many thanks
**UPDATE**
They don't want another one.......! Mother says she's too busy with work to give enough time and love to a new dog and she wants the next one to be hers, not my fathers (who is always at home)!

Hi Anna, so sorry for your mum and dads loss, people dont realise always, the huge dent a beloved pet leaves when there gone, your mum and dad ought to go to the local pets home and look for a dog, as there are so many in need of what sounds like a terrific home!

Thanks Lynda and Paula. xx. They have always got their dogs from Battersea, the Blue Cross or a friend that rescues all sorts of animals. I just thought maybe someone here may know of a desperate situation that they could help with. |

So sorry Anna, sounds like you cant do right for doing wrong either!!! Tis such a shame when you have to part with them. We rescued a collie x when the boys and I were first on our own. They grew up with her and she was my security. She was two when we had her and had to say goodbye 3 years ago at the end of this month - she was 16. It still hurts like a raw wound that wont heal and no matter how I try, I cant have another. Jen was "the one" just like Freddie is!! I know I will have another but for now and I putting all my time into enjoying Freddie to the full and perhaps one day my new companion and I will walk the lanes where Freddie and I used to go.
I wish your parents well in whatever they decide, can understand how Mum feels, you need to have the quality time to enjoy them. Sandie |

I'm sorry to hear of your loss.
If you decide on having another dog your could always try another Springer from specialised Spaniel Rescue. They are always looking for good homes for our 'wonderful springer friends'. |

Thank you so much for your support. I took her out for lunch today and she said that last night was the first night that she has slept in months...poor old mummy! Still little 'lellifontini' as I called her (she used to get very excited for some reason) has hopefully met up with the other two dogs that they lost when they had her. Thanks girls xx |
