Hi Joyce,
We bought a CCTV system from Makro - it is Micromark - black & white wireless camera system and we are very happy with it. It cost about £80.
Good luck, it saves loads of headaches. It was tuned in to our telly in the bedroom and it was more fun watching the foals after they were born, than waiting for it to arrive!!

Joyce,
It was fairly easy to set up. Box that plugs into back of telly, which received the signal from box in barn, connected to camera. We used walkie talkies to get the camera in the right position and then fixed the bracket in the permanent position, for use for last year's foals and future foals.

At Al Waha, we use a monitor called Magic Breed made in Australia. We have a room behind the foaling boxes with a door with a viewing window with access directly into the stable.
The monitor, which is waterproof and very light, is attached to a headcollar. Within 8 to 10 seconds of the mare going down to foal (so the monitor is at a different angle), the alarm box which can be situated up to 400 metres away, rings an alarm in the main transmitter.
We've found Magic Breed great - you can actually sleep until the alarm goes off! . We've been using ours for years without any probs.
Magic Breed have a website so have a look.

In this weeks H & H there is a Lynx Camera System advertised (under Security) Wireless ObservationSystem. Cameras may be located up to 2km away from receiver. Not cheap though!!
