How many Show bred Arabians - ridden & in-Hand have gone on to have ridden competative careers in say endurance riding - after they left the show ring? Just interested to find out how many go on to have "another life" after their showring careers.

I've often wondered that to! There are so many young in hand horses. There are some who have fab carers ie TOMAN!! And there are 'a few' others mentioned on here to. What happens to all the others? Are they used for breeding or what?? I look forward to seeing replies from the breeders...... |

I showed Razina Gold at lot in hand in the UK. Then I did train her to do endurance which she loved till she had an accident in the trailer. She had 12 months off to recover. I tried her at trail riding over here but she thought she was endurance riding again and just wanted to go as fast as she could. I have shown her under saddle over here as well and she's done well.

Does it have to be a competitive career Judith? My mare was successful in-hand as a 2-3yr old at Malvern and subsequently took the conventional path of becoming a broodmare, but then I bought her and she has become a lovely ridden mare although I don't compete on her.

Perhaps I should re-phrase that: How many Arabians that have primarly been shown in-hand or under saddle - have - after their show-ring careers have finished - then gone onto have success in other areas eg, endurance riding, le-trec, riding club, dressage etc. |

I know this probably doesn't count as truly "successful" as in "famous". But my stallion had a very prolific in-hand career as a youngster, produced some beautiful, well-balanced foals (all of which I keep in touch with), he was also a well-loved family pet. He was broken to ride at 5yrs and performed most dressage movements by the time he was 7yrs (but hated to go round and round in circles). Could also go out for a ride for 20 mins or 5 hours and enjoyed every minute, in any company, he was always a gentleman. He was always treated as a friend and not as a "stallion". He was turned out every day, within view of his mares, unless he decided the weather was too bad for him!!!!
I call that successful??
He is the first bay in my sig pics. "au naturel", although he loved to go to shows and strutt his stuff too - a horse in a million. He turned many heads and converted more than a few people to Arabitis!!!

al of ours have lives outside the show ring. odin mostly so as he has done show jumping, dressage and low level endurance. sol has been ridden but not as much as we would like due to lack of time. that time was spent on showing the youngsters who have all gone on to either do endurance or show jumping |

My Little chap never went in the show ring , but Raced for 10 years, was handicapt out, now does endurance ( albeit semi-retired now ) . Its amazing how they can excell in one sphere and then go on to another,...versatile little horses aren't they ! polly |

Didn't Silent King do well in-hand before he went on to succeed as a showjumper?
Carla, I have another Marawan son who can't stand going in circles either!
