I feed a mixture of alfa A and hi-fi, both from dengie. The only reason I use hi-fi is to pad out his feed as mine likes to guzzle down his food extra fast, but I like to add in the alfa A as i think it gives his feed a little bit more flavour instead of it being plain boring splonch. |

I think I probly continue to feed a mixture of both Alfa A & this Cherry Show Shine stuff, The horses love it, they seem to be doing really well on it, I have a just felt for a number of months that Alfa A is a bit overrated (Mainly because its so expensive) I have always liked the idea of feeding less cereal and more fibre and thats why I chose Alfa A, it gets really cold up here in winter and keeping condition on the growing ones can be a task in its self. Maybe im just a tight A**e ha ha. (Not really, the horses come first)

As I took all mine off Molasses I now use Alfa oil with very good results.
Have never had a problem with the mud fever and alfa-a , only with Topspec and mud fever.
My little mare has a couple of scopes of alfa oil at night as she will eat it during the night, whereas she has a very small handful in the morning as she preferes to be out.
The others have a scope in the morning and one at night.
I also use SS Lucie bixs or their Green Gold (pure Luccurn)

Freddie is a good doer so Showshine chaff is all he needs really with a vitamin supplement. During the cold weather though I add a few high fibre cubes. Quite agree with the "less cereal more fibre" and would be happier without the molasses in the chaff but it hasn't fizzed him up, he loves it and looks good so after our dilemna at Christmas I guess a little of what he fancies etc!! I have a very good doer who, even living out 24/7 on an exposed Scottish hill, never gets any concentrates. He is worked about 3-4 times a week for an hour during the winter so has a blanket clip and a very toasty 400g Fal Viking rug. He gets a large scoop of Dodson and Horrell Alfalfa (less sugar than the norm, so suitable for laminitics... which he has had), Soya oil and vits/mins and one large pile of hay. Looks fabulous on it and it also takes him ages to scoff which is good. I am so lucky that he thrives on this |
