Hi
My mare has a prophets thumb mark towards the bottom of her shoulder
and towards the front near her chest.
Does anyone elses Arab have one and are they common also are they hereditary.

Perissa had a sizable one at the base of her neck, it was lovely on a cold day for warming my nose while breathing on the lovely scent of a warm horse.

My stallion, Spanish Crusader, (Sultan to his friend's) has one. They are the horses blessed by Allah, or, as we would say, God's chosen few.

My friends TB Mare had one on her bum.
I believe its lucky as she had 3 tendon injuries on three different legs, the first one at the age of 6 or 7 and each time the vet tried to write her off saying she should be retired and used as a broodmare (unfortunately she was barren!) or put to sleep. Needless to say her owner did none of these things and decided to carry on working her and she turned out to be one of the best endurance horses she ever had. Even at 22/23 she was doing 10 or 12 mile pleasure rides (only in walk and trot) and she would get SO crabby if you didn't ride her for a few days.
The luck ran out for dear old Polly when she wa 25 and had to be pts due to colic.

We think Shanaara has one, its like a dent across her wind pipe, probably half way up her neck. No white hairs or hair loss. Her coat is just black same as the rest.
Its either that OR an injury.??? |

| my old gelding had a huge one like an indentation on his neck and a smaller one further up ,blessed by Allah apparently, thats why he won two races in the same day and held the 6 furlong record as a 4 yo i guess..... |

My TB had a clear prophet's thumb on her bum, it was so clear they put it on her passport too.
I was told it was lucky and I believed that too
But after owing her only 18 months my beautiful, kind, wonderful girl suffered a horrific freak field accident. She died in the most horrible way imaginable and I can hardly come to terms with losing her  But I can never come to terms with how I lost her 
No living thing especially not my beautiful horse deserved such an end...some luck eh
Sorry to put a downer on this...
Edited to add this picture of her...I hope you don't mind.
I miss her so much and look at her pictures all the time and cry, it's all I have left now...

I am so sorry to put such a downer on this thread. I have worried and felt bad about it all day
I really tried not to, but my fingers and brain ran away with me when it reminded me of my girl's prophet's thumb that I was so proud of and I would show people who had never seen one and tell them that it was said to be a lucky symbol
I was going to say please don't let it put you off posting more, but it's futile I guess, as I've kinda put the tin lid on it...sorry Cassie

Your mare was beautiful, I'm a sucker for a chesnut mare! I had one too, but mine sadly passed away as well.
I dread to think what happened to your mare, but it's so nice that you included her in this thead, even though it was upsetting for you. They might be gone but they are certainly not forgotton! |
