I took my pure bred boy hunting for the first time on Wed! We both loved it, everyone said how well behaved he was for an 'Arab'
Here is me on Rupert (Farhan) we are the grey in the foreground on the right, sorry pic not great! (ps I plaited him! )

Your horse looks lovely, but I have always been totally against hunting---even when it was legal. Now that it isn't legal, I think it is despicable that hunters find "loopholes" to continue with this barbarity. |

I think you'll find dassa went drag hunting - the only kind now legal.
I don't personally know of any hunts that operate outside the law. People need to realise that Hunting Animals with Dogs was Banned - not gathering weekly on horse back and following a scenting pack!
Well done dassa - glad you had a blast

Was it drag hunting, Dassa?
Glad you had a good time and that your boy showed others that Arabs can turn their hooves to anything
Sadly, there are still hunts that refuse to abide by the ban |

Glad you enjoyed yourself! I think that my PBA gelding would love it too, just not sure that I am brave enough now!! I went drag hunting a few times when we live on the Isle of Man (many years ago!) and I really enjoyed it. I rode a Han x TB mare who, although green, was very honest and never refused a jump! I have to say there were a few that I closed my eyes for though!!! A great advert for the Arab breed. |

I went out with my friend's local hunt in South Wales once (i borrowed one of their horses who looked after me very well!) and I had a great time, I even jumped a four foot hedge which was very brave for me as I don't like jumping really! |

I'd love to give it a try (drag or whatever) but I haven't the nerve and besides, I think any self-respecting hunt would have a fit at Amelia's red tack!!!!

last time i went out with the hunt was probably 89 when i was getting Camps fit for his races and i was trying to keep him mentally happy and fit,we both loved it found it amazingly exciting he would trot in front and canter behind!!!! Been hunting ever since i was a child of about 10, i was never out long enough to see a kill and dont go now ,i sit on the fence on the hunting arguement as i can see both sides of the debate. |

Well done. I used to know a little 14.2 purebred who hunted. In fact they did the gates for everyone and often gave a lead over some hedges for experienced hunts people. So much for Arabs not being able to jump! |

Well done - he looks the "BiZ"!!!!!
I hunted lots in my youth - loved it - despite being on neds I couldn't stop!! I think I last followed the hounds mounted would have been in 1976! Have followed on foot since at time & still support our local pack!
In fact they were hunting on the hills behind our farm today - I longed to join in - but we had visitors! |

Thanks everyone for all your good wishes! Yes it is drag hunting. Rupert was sooooo good with all the other horses, and i loved it, it showed everyone how good arabs really are. I hope to go again soon and JUMP!!! He now does everything! Showing, dressage, endurance, costume, hacking, jumping and now hunting! I didn't think i would have the nerves to do it, but the half a glass of brandy they give you at the meet goes a long way!! |

Good for you isnt it a wonderful day out! I used to be very anti, then I saw the plus side the social side is brilliant, I made far more genuine friends than in the showing world they arent going to be passing emails between themselves or ringing each other when I post on the internet slurring and slandering my reputation and then all sweetness and light to my face, genuine people with a genuine reason for being because guess what? They have a life and get on with it envy doesnt figure! I would remind you that hunting with bloodhounds is legal also(a runner lays down the scent, it isnt gung ho like fox hunting all the routes are preplanned and walked out with health and safety in mind we have a lot of children riding with us) and this is the hunting I am referring to before any of you get on high horses or moral high ground! Good for you Dassa! Have fun. |

Evie and Taragun have hunted several times this season and had a wonderful time - up there at the front with the field master and clearing every obstacle in their paths! I think our local hunt is now quite used to seeing our Arabs out on the hunting field (and we don't plait).
There is absolutely no substitute for hunting as part of a horse's cross country training. A horse has to develop self awareness coupled with a bond with the rider - 50 or so horses going at a flat out gallop across unknown countryside demands manners and good behaviour on the part of the horse and nerves of steel from horse and rider. It improves balance and rhythm. A horse can get excited going cross country at the best of times but couple this with 49 other horses who are equally excited is a training exercise that just cannot be repeated anywhere else.
Well done Dassa - glad someone else has realised how addictive it can be! Go for it - fly the flag for Arabs!

Yes Dazzler, I found everyone very friendly, ready to have a chat, and very polite. They all wished you good morning, and good night, very different to some showing scenes.
Ruperts manners and behaviour were impeccable and when it came time to leave and hack home (for another hour and a half) he perked his ears forward and trotted off away from the 30 or so other horses and carried me merrily home. He was just the best and we will fly the flag with pride |

Nuttybabes its really good fun and they are veyr safety conscious, with our group you dont have to jumop if you dont want there are three sections, up with the fieldmaster , in the middle and at the back non jumpers and its not flat out galloping. You would love it, like minded peeps out for a lovely ride. Im 5.4 and I ride an 18.2 hunter. Once you're on you're on no getting off lol. I do a running plait on arab if I take one.Couldnt bear to pull a gorg arab mane |
