So sorry to hear of your loss. There really does need to be something done about this dreadful illness. Unfortunately there are so many causes of laminitis. Insurance companies need to become aware of the fact that laminitis is not a disease in itself but the side effect of many other things. One of my horses had it because of bad farriery but he is now not insured for this should it happen again regardless of cause.
If anyone has a horse who suffers from laminitis it may help to get in touch with Roger Hatch on 01243 551766. One story thatI tell is about the 5 yearold dressage horse in the USA who was going to be PTS because of laminitis but my daughter put them in touch with Roger and he exported his supplements to them. The horse was back out on the circuit withina month and never looked back. |

So sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved mare. laminitis is a dreadful thing, fortunately none of mine have ever had it but have known lots who have. I hope her son soon gets over the loss, does he have any company to take his mind off it? A friend in times of need always helps.

Janet, cold shivers went through me when I saw this Post. You should be proud that you gave her an extended quality of life for the past year and that you had the courage to know when to stop. I only hope that I, too, may know when its time if it finally doesnt work out for my boy either. I admire you for the way you have handled this terrible thing. |
