Hi. Does anyone know of a good stallion website/directory for French Arab Racing stallions. Secondly is there a general stud book for racing arabs in the UK where one can research pedigrees etc. as one can with TBreds. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Unfortunatly there's not really much of a central Database on racing stallions. The main studs in UK are Shadwell - see their website for arab stallions (5 or 6) all very good value, and Umm Quarn who have top stallion Amer. Otherwise most of rest of "best" stand in France especially at the National stud, or in Poland/Russia - again national studs, or in UAE and USA. All possible now especially since AI is allowed in arab race breeding (if somewhat expensive). Paul Simmons has written a good article or 2 on this site in the racing section on a few stalions but its a couple of years out of date. Otherwise there are a few private stallions standing around the country. We breed from our french bred and raced Stallion - Sun Al Maury who is well bred and a lovely horse. Research is particularly difficult on stallions - I'd recommend buying ARO's last few years' racing review which has lists of top sires in UK. French website for arab racing http://www.afac-france.com/TempSite/35676.asp?rang= also give statistics on french racing and emirates racing website. http://www.emiratesracing.com does similar. Also look through past results on international site http://www.ifahr.com/ which will have links to all the national asosiations. A few difference to note to TB's is there is far less choice of stallions and there tends to be more inbreeding thesedays especially in some of the french horses-so outcropping has become more popular especially french x russian/polish/USA. Mares performance/breeding also tend to have greater importance in arabs than TB's. Statistics can be misleading sinec there are far fewer races/runners in arab racing so be careful. Also try calling Kelanne Stud in Hampshire to see if they have any stallions there. |

Try also www.kossack.com, they had or have Nougatin and other well known Russian Rce horses.
Most polish horses will have raced in their youth so you may wich to consider that

Liz Harrington has a few stallions at Larkinglass Farm in Dorset. We have mares due to Khoutoubia, and The Wiking. Paul Simmons is also doing a stallion 'directory' for which is due out soon I think. He does some very good articles on 'Racing Arabians'. Also American stallions in the ' Arabian Finish Line' publication. There are quite a few french bred stallions in there. Are you planning on breeding for racing?

Thanks, Also would anyone know the whereabouts or info on the mare called Tikis Tiffany (Flaming Streak/Riflana), she is American breeding abd I just wondered if she was previously owned by the Shadwell, but i cant get in touch with them.Thank you. |

I mean he could be at Larkinglass farm in Dorset with Liz - this is where her yard is now. She moved from Conkwell a long time ago now. Wouldn't mind living at Conkwell though!! |

Vadeer is now at Larkinglass Farm in Dorset with Liz Harrington, I saw him a couple of years ago and he looked very well. She's also got Karmah, The Wiking, Khoutoubia and the wonderful Pogojii (I've used all these stallions and they have all produced well with my mares). Umm Qarn of course have some very nice stallions and Shadwell, also Warrens Hill have Chatanz a very good horse on his day.
The Arab Race Stallion Review 2006/07 will be updated on this site in the next few weeks. When's its up I'll flag it on the forum!

I am thinking of using Nizam, Amer's son, very good racehorse and much more reasonably priced.

Larkinglass doesn't have a website but if you e-mail me I'll give you her number, Vadeer does still stand at Larkinglass though I believe. And Karmah has now gone back to his native Argentina so those who didn't use him have missed the boat!
Carol I plan to use Nizam on CS Comete next year, he's a bit expensive so we'll see how well she does this season; but lets face it much more affordable than his sire Amer.
