Its been blowing a hooli here all day today but the rain has past and the wind is supposed to calm this evening so I thought - leave Freddie out. Armed with his tea and hay went to his paddock. First of all long face cos he thought he was coming in!! Gave him his tea in the usual place beside the hedge but when I put the hay down it was blowing everywhere so I moved it to the corner where it was more sheltered max 50 yds away. Moved his tea as well. He ate 2 mouthfuls and went back to his usual spot(asking me to put it back). Twice I dragged him back down by his rug to where his tea and hay was. Then went out the gate. As I walked back up the lane he flew up across his paddock like a rocket bucking and jumping throwing a right old tantrum because I didnt move it back where he wanted it. It will be interesting to see if its gone in the morning. He used to do this in his old paddock and totally refuse to touch it!!!

Ooh I am glad I am not the only one!
I was supposed to be wintering my mare and yearling out this year with the shetland pony but they have been in for a few nights with the bad weather.
Tonight is not supposed to be as cold or windy so I have fed them and put lots of hay out and they couldn't care less about being out. They felt lovely and warm under their rugs.
But I was feeling a little guilty as I can hear the wind is still blowing fairly strong...
PS I have got 2 tractor tyres for putting my hay in so it doesn't blow all over the field. They weren't sure at first but now it works a treat! |

Don't you just love them
Shah comes gallopping up to the gate when he sees me coming to get him in but he'll stop a few yards away on the other side of the huge puddle so that I have to get in the puddle to put his headcollar on. He obviously thinks it's not fair if I don't have to get my feet wet as well as him!!
Not sure if anyone was as stupid as me and tried to ride yesterday in the stormy weather... I mounted ok and walked up one side the arena, the quiet side, and we then turned to face the gusts and poor Shah nearly sat down, the wind was so strong! A few turns later his flight side of the brain took over and I don't think his hooves touched the ground until I realised the stupidity of the situation and got off - think I've learned my lesson...hehehe |

Just ask around your farmers, when tractor tyres wear out (not very often but they do), they all go to a tyre collection company. Thats where I got mine from, or a farmer might have some lying around? I got mine for free but I had to collect them in my trailer. I have 2 spare cos I got 4 but I don't think you are near me arabic. |

No Sarah, Im a little too far away, but thank you for the very kind thought. Our farmer is semi retired now and just hires in a tractor when he needs it and I dont have a trailer to collect from anywhere. Never mind I am fine with using the hedge. Thought about getting something like farmers use for cattle but its a little large for 1 pony ha ha. Will have to start a topic I think of gismo's people use to keep their hay from blowing around the field!! Sandie |
