Do I have too many?
I have 7 at the moment for my girl - a lightweight turnout, 2 medium weight turnouts, a heavy weight with no neck, a full neck heavyweight, a stable rug and a fleece. I also have a neck cover.
I don't think this a huge amount as we have very cold and wet winters where we are and a change of rug is often needed on a daily basis.

My boy has 4 turnout rugs, 3 travel rugs, 2 fleeces, 1 under rug and 5 stable rugs. My Oh says "that horse has more clothes than I have" and I say "But he needs them". |

definately not too many. my horses have 2x heavywt turnouts with half necks 2 x med wt with half neck and removalble full neck cover 2 x light wt with removable neck cover 1 x lightwt rain sheet each also several stable rugs and cooolers, around 8 or 9 each of these in different weights each. also some rugs same as above but a bit older so they are all ok but are "spares" the weather is so wet and mild or cold and frosty. something is needed to cover all this. I reckon I have about 35 rugs for my 2 arabs. |

Dear Vera
I do understand that a well dressed horse needs a comprehensive wardrobe but how do you decide which one he is going to wear??

What colour is Dennis wearing this winter Vera?
I have a VAST ammount of rugs - I can't even begin to count them BUT - so far this winter only three of my neds are rugged - the rest are still bare here on the Welsh hills! Its wild & very wet but so far they seem to be quite happy Mind you I think their MUD rugs are keeping them warm!!!

I thought mine had a lot of rugs, three turnouts, and stable rugs. Mine have nothing on Dennis, Vera, I seem to remember this subject being discussed before. Dennis must be one of the best dressed horses around. Nicky |

Apparently before I got my girl she was notorious for ripping rugs - so far (touch wood) this year she has been very good and I'm hoping she's grown out of that habit. Or maybe it was the threat that if she ripped them she would go without (I didn't mean it but she doesn't know that)
Anyway nice to know that its not just me who loves buying them and seeing them looking snart in them - maybe that's why I'm poor now hmmmmmm ......... |

I think we'll be having a bit of a clear-out, wash and sell this weekend with rugs!! We didn't know how many we had until we put a new lightbulb in the tack room a couple of weeks ago and found foal rugs galore and others we don't use anymore!! |

Golly, and I thought my friend Sara was bad about rugs... you lot leave her standing! I feel quite ashamed of Amelia's scanty wardrobe: she has two decentish turnout rugs (one midweight, one heavyweight which was secondhand from said friend as her horse outgrew it); all the others are old and damaged versions which I'm keeping 'for emergencies' and the others are Meg's old rugs (travel stuff, a homemade sweat rug, a good quality stable rug, and a lovely Lansdown turnout rug which is hopelessly too big for Amelia but which I can't bear to throw away!) Trouble is with the old stuff is that it MIGHT come in handy... in the meantime it's filling up my garage and probably being used as nesting material by mice.

Thanks everyone at least now I know I'm not the only one. She looks lovely in her new Weatherbeeta Orican and will be very cosy on those horrible wet and snowy days. |

I'm clearly very mean - every year I say to Shida next year I'll get you a nice new rug but then I get my old ones out and they are still fine so she's still waiting! Don't ever use my indoor rugs either she just stays in the same rug all night as I can't see the point of taking off a nice warm toasty rug and putting a cold one on plus it's far quicker in the morning just to chuck her straight out. |
