Just thought about this one.In roughly the last ten years whoom do you think has made there mark on breeding in the uk. It can be mares or stallions , Imports or home grown talants. would love to hear from you all. I would start of with El Shaklan and his gorgous offspring.

Silvern Sceptre. (Good luck to Silvern Sheena at HOYS!)

His babies are versatile and fabulous ridden horses (as i'm just beginning to find out with my own one!!)

I know I'm biased...

Hope the grandchildren are the same (i've got one of those too!)

hi

i have one filly and one yearling colt (full sister and brother) in the bloodline is so exciting that it is for a triple El Shaklan and double Carmargue!
By British National Champion, Aazari. Aazari’s pedigree is a wonderful combination of the very best of English bloodlines with a touch of the exotic through his sire lines of Carmargue and legendary* Sandik El Shaklan

i am plan to apply for stallion licence for him in 2007, do u agree? do u think anyone will be interest in him?

El Shaklan, Padrons Psyche, Carmargue, Ruminaja Ali and Kubinec are the top 5 without a doubt. If you think about current succesful sires, a large majority of them will have at least one of these stallions in their pedigree somewhere

well I am biased but WSA Charismma*** has earned his three stars because he has been so polific in siring champion offspring over the years, he has a really good track record for siring stallion material, and his daughter's have sold for excellent prices, He is still the only 3* stallion in this country to date also his stock breed on to grand get who also number 3 national champions to date. his offspring have wonderful temperaments as does he, I am his biggest fan and have been since he was three years old and wet behind the ears, he has the magic that lights the eye and stays in the mind .
I love other stallions in this country and I feel they are not used enough, Psyche spirit, Maximus, Narismma, Om El Shaheen, Final shadow, and the new guy on the block Vivaldi, are SOME of my favourite stallions one thing I would say is of every colt born, in every 5 years or so, only 1% should ever be stallions. that is my view.

Personally Blacklord Caesaro...91 progeny...should be more, classy horse...gas 142 relatives in this world, and I think there is not many to compare to him, beautiful horse, and true to type..for me anyway. I think these modern stallions are over bred, put to too many mares, and this produces a glut of progeny, which forces prices down...why can't we put a limit on the number of mares a stallion is allowed to cover?

I put my own limit on the mares as do many other stallion owners, because to have inferior(sp) stock does no one any good. and as you say devalues the market we are all different though ,and it is our choice at the end of the day to use whichever stallion we think will compliment our mares. Have we been here before?? I cant help thinking we had another thread on the same question not so long ago

Breeders can AND do limit the number of mares to their stallions...but presume ultimately it's down to personal choice of each breeder.

I do agree with you that Blacklord Cesaro was something special, have just this moment, been looking him up, as a friend of a friends mare is by him, and they have a grandchild too.

On undeceased stallions, I really like WSA Charismma, Dervatiw Gwyddion, and Rusleem.

I'm a complete Novice, and just buy and state what i see is what i like!!

As the thread asked for influential mares as well, could I put in a vote for Toman's mum Queens Topaz (Midnight Gold x Dancing Queen)? Obviously a mare can't have as many offspring to represent her as a stallion, but as far as I know virtually all of this mare's children and grandchildren have been champions! A pretty amazing record.

As for Mares, I really don't know that many...apart from my girl!!! Another stallion who I think is gorgeous, and should have more representatives is Vodolej...fantastic example of the breed, and my frined in the states sent me a video of her stallion, VF Perdition...beautiful...this has got me hoping I get a colt from the mare I am getting!

How about the wonderful Aliha to represent the girls? I know she is sadly no longer with us but for producing offspring - Atlantica had to be one of the best ever (also deceased ) and of course Ayat, Amazonn, Akhenaten, Ashiqua etc

Thinking to more current horses of note that I have seen and speaking also of Queen's Topaz, I recently visited all the wonderful horses at Dreamfield Arabians and was lucky enough to see Lynda Free's Queen's Topaz daughter Thoraya, absolutely beautiful. As was Minuette, who I've always wanted to meet and she is quite ethereal in real life. In fact I could quite happily have tucked Minnie and her delightful foal into the back of my car and brought them back up to Bucks with me!

I'm also one of the privileged few that Lynda is allowing to use WSA Charismma*** next year on my special mare Kuraishiya. This will be the first foal that I have ever bred and I have long admired Charismma so feel very lucky that Lynda is allowing me to send her to him. Crimbo has the most amazing temperament as has my mare, so I'm hoping for a poppet of a baby as well as hopefully a very beautiful one! He really is such a gentle stallion, I spent ages just sitting on the floor of his stable whilst he rested his chin on my head! He seems to be able to turn the charisma on for his 'ladies' and then switch it off at the flick of switch. One of my main reasons for choosing him as a novice breeder, is that he is such a prolific producer of outstanding stock which was, I think, the criteria for mentioning a horse on this thread and this is borne out by his winning the Sire Produce Group award at Malvern this year. So, my vote for the BOYS is Crimbo!

Awwh thanks Jen, you can visit with us anytime, nice to meet thoughtful people who are dedicated to using lines they know to be compatable with their own, and your mare being a malik El keil daughter ( Sorry about the spelling I just had a senior momentand cant remember how to spell his name, but you know the one, El Shaklan son !) is known to cross very well with Charismma she was one I would NOT turn away and she is beautiful to boot !

Pashon! Absolutely...tops! The straight Crabbet mares, Silvern Dream and Sa'Lilah have had a huge international impact through their progeny. Also would add Silvern Sceptre to the list and his sire, Silvern Idyll...not many but those babies have been very successful in the straight Crabbet category and in open competition.

By virtue of being the dams of influential sires I think one has to consider Panagia and Padrons Psyche's mother (whose name escapes me). Another mare whose offsring are making their mark throughout the world rather than just in the UK is The Vision HG, in years to come I think she will be considered a great via her sons and grandsons especially Al Lahab who is in his short career producing outstanding stock.

Estopa via her sons and daughters also deserves a mention as does Hashemiya for her crosses with Crusader which of course brings one to consider Salaa el Dine.

Looking at my foal this year and those of I have to say that Om el Bahreyn definitely stamps his stock and if enough mares are avilable to him will I think prove influential in the future. As I believe will Psyches Spirit.

Balaton and his son Kubinec cannot be discounted.

I would hope that in the future we will be able to discuss the influence that some British Exports have had on the European/worldwide breeding. Can anyone think of any British stallions used in Europe/Worldwide that have made a difference in this time frame

There are many beautiful stallions in the UK who given the chance to cover quality mares will prove themsolves in the future. To me the criteria for a true great is the ability to pass on good points to offspring from a variety of lines.

Yvonne

There are many really great mares and stallions in the world who have not made a great impact in UK. Some who have are El Shaklan (but would he have done if he had not been at the maxwell's; I doubt it as he wouldn't have had that opportunity), Ruminaja Ali for his grandget, not many direct sons or daughters, Theegyptianprince again for his grandget, I have three two grandaughters who are good producers for me although I don't use them every year, Imperial Imdal, Psytadel and Psynergy for their recent produce, I am sure Imperial Kamill will eventually take his place with "the greats". There are many other good stallions who due to the limited number of mares they get are unlikelt to take their place in the hall of fame but deserve to do so. Kerim Shah has sired some really lovely stock, Ffatal Attraction ditto.

The mares have to be headed by the two great mares Aliha and Estopa. It is quite difficult to give credit to mares over the last ten years as they really need time to prove their worth in several generations, much easier for stallions to do so due to the larger number of foals they can sire.

Of course if we looked at the worldwide picture it would be easier and I also am not very up on some bloodlines so may have missed some really obvious ones.

The nice thing is that the best mares don't always produce the best foals, although it helps, but the bloodlines are very important in producing quality stock.

Barbara
