Have you seen it yet - I went yesterday and really enjoyed it - If you liked that, then for your winter reading borrow a copy of Jane Smiley's book 'Horse Heaven'- a really good read. Proves us horse folk - good and bad(!) are pretty much the same all over the world - even Jack Russell's seem to be the same in the USA, according to the book! Have you read a good horsey book recently/ Do share, so I can go to the library - after my daily dose of Arabian Lines the TV fails to entertain me much.

If its not on video yet I won't see it, cinema seats and not being able to move or pause it when I need a cuppa have turned me into more of a recluse.
If anyone recommends books, can they say whether you can put them down, as there is never time to go cover to cover!
Agree with you Chris about TV. the more channels the less choice as they are all making cheap programmes the same as each other. Less was definatley 'more'. |

Re horsey books - has anybody got any idea of where I can get a copy of "The Wild Horse of Santander". I read it when I was a kid and I've never forgotten it. I want a copy for my neice but can't find it and no reference to it on Amazon.
Thanks

I saw it on Saturday night, thoroughly recommend it.I thought it was really well done. It touches on a lot of things that are important, read between the lines.

Yes, I agree! I went to see it at a preview showing a couple of weeks ago and did the unthinkable, taking the kids to a Sunday night showing with school the next day!
We all thought it was WELL worth it, though.
The issues of not "writing off a whole life just 'cos it's banged up a little" as one line from the film put it, touches me deeply at the moment because of the troubled, blemished little horse in my yard who is bolshy and stubborn but whose spirit and will to try makes me want to cry at times.
Seabiscuit makes you think twice about second chances and the success that may come from them when you have belief and dedication.
I WANT to believe in that because we all, at some time or another have been or will be grateful for the times when chances that look lost come around again...
Anyone notice that three horses, so I read in one review, apparently played the title role to demonstrate different sides to "The Biscuit's" nature?
All I can say is that the film is very well cut!
This story says a lot about human nature aswell as horse sense!
Loved it!

12!!!!!! WOW! It wasn't so much the colour or coat(though it seemed to vary a bit!!) as the outlines and facial features that seemed to alter. At the time, I wondered how many horses were used as the variation didn't seem to be all a trick of the lighting! I read it was 3...but, gracious, 12!!!

I've got it on pirate DVD but not watched it yet. On the trailer it looks a lot like Phar Lap - I know that film word for word....

If it's sad I have no chance! I remember howling when I read Black Beauty when I was younger, especially where Ginger dies and they throw her on the back of the cart... |

Samantha, yopu wont blubber at it, its more of a thinking film really,(all Ill say is it was a filly foal on that trailer!) go see it,ITS GOOD.honest. several friends and I went to see Black Beauty and we tore it to pieces(mares instead of geldings, white painted on , black dye etc) in between snivelling and bawling of course, afterwards we went for a pizza, the waiteress asked us if we'd been to a funeral!. The narration of Black Beauty was the tear jerker.

leighann, hope you dont mind me replying instead, Pharlap is still one of the greatest australian racehorses of all time,he raced in the 1930s,he was bought as a scrawny looking youngster, and didnt start of well in his first few races, always last, then oneday he was trained to over take his training pal,and it seemed from then on it encouraged him.he went on to win 37 out of 51 races, and placed in the others,he set records in at least eight of his stakes races!!!he won the biggest race in australia -the melbourne cup
he was sired by night raid, and out of entreaty.he was 17.1hh.gelding. pharlap was so great and fast that someone even tried to kill.
he was the best in australia,so was invited to race the best in mexico, ofering $50,000.alot of money in those days.
pharlap had to carry 129 pounds, more than any in the race,he won the race and set another track record,
unfortianately he never made it back to australia, pharlap became ill and nothing could be done to save him,he died on april 5th 1932,only 5 years old. people say and suspect someone ploted to have him killed in america,no information ever turned up and the actual cause of death is still a mistory.
pharlaps skeleton is in an australian museum, along with other parts of his body.

yes I agree with Danni. The beginning was a bit slow but after that it was good.Thought we may have had a bad time watching it though. Had some idiot boys behind us that kept messing about. Anyway they got booted out so it turned out find in the end.
