Hi, I had a pair of leather Cavallo boots for Christmas and I've been wearing them fairly often to try to wear them in but it just doesn't seem to be doing anything. They're still very stiff, especially around the ankles and have no where near 'dropped'. Can anyone suggest anything which might make them more supple
They make me look like I've got wooden peg legs! There's NO way I can ride in them yet!

 My Cavallo's were the same.
Get so Kochaline (SP) - it's in a small tin - most saddlers stock it. It's a red oily paste/gel. I put this around the ankles of my boots every day and rapped the bottoms in clingfilm before walking round the house in them!! You look like a prat but after about 2 weeks the boots really soften up. They won't drop properly until you start to ride in them - they'll also loosen around the ankle more too. |

I can sympathise with you. My new gaiters arrived today. 2 blisters and a lot of blood later and I've got them on. Took them off at lunchtime for a breather, and now I have them back on again plastered with dubbin, hoping that the warmth from my legs combined with the dubbin will supple them. Just hope nobody comes to the door!! |

Urrggh, that's the worst part! Mine are still doing that to me as well if its any consolation!
Whats dubbin? What does that do? Is it advisable to treat leather boots with leather cleaners? Would that help them supple? Would saddle oil help do you think? |

Well, dubbin is what we have been using for years (before horsey) to treat leather and the stitching (my sons walking boots)its thicker than oil, more like vaseline.Nikwax do something similar I believe. I find it supples up Feddies bridles if they refuse to soften with the oil. the stuff beginning with K that sub mentioned is the same texture, I cant think how to spell it either but I think its 2 words with a hyphen between! Something somebody told me once on a bridle I had that would not give was to forget the oil and plaster is with saddle soap and leave that to dry. It did seem to work but I couldnt wait to get the oil back on! Would be good to treat your leather boots with a cleaner and oil/wax too |

My long leather boots were a nightmare i wore them round the house for weeks! I also kept putting leather oil on then round the ankles. Also i invested in a lovley pair of thick socks so they didnt make my skinny ankles too sore whilst breaking them in!!! |

Thick socks!!!! I couldnt get a gnat between me and the gaiters lol!! Looks like I'm going to spend most of my summer wearing in my gaiters round the house instead of on the yard!! Knew I should have got boots lol!! |

I think gaiters may be the way to go! My boots are now rubbing my little toes, the back of my heel, the area just above my ankle... AGONY!! My partner doesn't half find it funny though watching me hobbling around! |

ooohhh Kash, I wouldnt be so sure, struggled into my gaiters again this morning, to wear around the house, they seemed to go on a little easier - great I thought - and then realised I had them on the wrong legs lol!!! Still , cant make that much difference hopefully they will break a bit more. Its just that if anyone comes to the door today, instead of the weirdo in gaiters, it will be the weirdo in gaiters on the wrong legs!!!
The things we do lol!!
To make matters worse, I didnt think I would ever get gaiters to fit (odd size) so bid on a pair of boots on ebay. Everything I have bid for has always been outbid. I dont want these boots anymore but it looks like they are going to be mine gggrrrr |
