I'm not very good at bloodlines (am learning!) - can someone please have a look at Tessas lines (the mare I bought last Autumn)on http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/rumbolds+contessa
& explain to me her lines.

Thanks!

Judith

Hi Judith,

Contessa's sire Charmer BASB is of Russian bloodlines - both of his parents were bred at Tersk. Apparently, BASB stands for BELIZE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY, so he is bred or registered in Belize. Does that make any sense? Could it be a typo, perhaps?

Her dam, Bask Juanita has a Polish sireline and the rest is mostly American (Selby and Babson, a lot of it). Her damline goes back to Nejdme who was imported to America in 1893 for the Chicago World Fair.

Now, even though she can be said to be Russian/American/Polish, there is also quite a lot of Egyptian lines in her pedigree, both through Aswan and through the Babson and Selby horses.

Hope this has given you something to go on

Anne

Charmer BASB is of Russian lines, though technically partly Egyptian as both his sire (Numizmat)and dam (Princessa) were by Aswan out of Russian mares. He was bred and registered by Arabica N W in Belgium in 1984 and was imported from Belgium with his half brother, Cordon (also by Numizmat) by Joan Ratcliff of Claverdon Stud, both as yearlings. Charmer BASB is now deceased. I imagine that BASB refers to the Belgium Arab Stud Book. He was given this suffix to avoid confusion as there is also a Charmer who was around at the time registered in the AHS Stud Book who raced but I think he was/is a gelding.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for clearing that up, Diane

According to the website http://www.arabdatasource.com/FaqDisplay.asp?id=8 the abbreviation for the Belgian Arabian Horse Society is BAPS not BASB, so that might be how the confusion arose.
