Posted - 07 Sep 2014 : 9:42:26 PM I used to like the 'who's this horse' quiz's - not that I was any good at getting the answers, but I enjoyed the opportunity to see different horses/types etc and hearing a bit about their history and achievements etc |

Posted - 05 Sep 2014 : 4:13:13 PM I so miss topics like Egbert used to post! Have re read them many times! I too love the picture threads.... Am so easily pleased! Could look at photos of beautiful Arabians all day! Yes it does get cliquey sometimes but unless your a fan of whatever is being posted .... Be it about showing, crabbets, whatever I guess , unless that's your bag then it may feel that way???? A lot of stuff in the past on here and Facebook is rammed down your throats but I guess we all have a choice whether we read it or not. I know on some forums you can actually block certain users so that you don't have to read their posts..... Maybe that would stop some of the sniping? Ramble over.... Just my thoughts |

Posted - 05 Sep 2014 : 11:38:17 AM I will try to post and not just lurk
One thing I've not quite got to grips with here is finding unread posts, is there any quick way I can just see new posts when I log on? |

Posted - 05 Sep 2014 : 11:33:02 AM I agree with Ruthie, I'm more of a lurker now after some of the comments (not to me) that were made in posts some time ago and the site got quite clicky, so I feel it safer to keep quiet rather than post, but I agree that it is a great site and a lot of knowledge can be learnt from others, and if you have a problem (which many of us do at some time or another) you get a lot of helpful advice so keep up the good work admin and I look forward to the changes

Posted - 05 Sep 2014 : 10:02:59 AM Sharea, I am sure you are far more knowledgeable than you think and I am sure you have lots of interesting thing to contribute. We don't all need to be blinded dy science or have an in depth knowledge of breeding and bloodlines to have something intelligent to say and we all started from a position of relative ignorance about in depth topics.
It didn't take a lot of intelligence to ask if anyone else was picking nettles and learned that my horses were fussy beggars for not eating the bindweed!!!!
A different slant on everday topics always welcome.

Posted - 04 Sep 2014 : 8:26:53 PM I do feel guilty as I tend to lurk nowadays, I'm not very knowledgeable about breeding or showing. I just know I love my mare and to me she's so beautiful but we have had quiet summer (which is good) but unfortunately haven't any thing interesting to contribute! But I still love AL and I always find it very interesting and informative. |

Posted - 04 Sep 2014 : 6:42:04 PM So far we have;-
1) Photos - easy upload 2) Conformation 3) Vet pages - can be linked into the horse health section on the main site etc - expanded if people contribute
Good start, lets keep this rolling

Posted - 04 Sep 2014 : 5:43:24 PM A section for veterinary problems maybe? The thread about LV and photosensitivity was a really useful thread and it would be nice to have all the veterinary threads gathered together.
The conformation one could have a sticky post with reference photos/diagrams of desired conformation/the breed standard. Maybe people would like to submit new threads with photos of their horses for conformation assessment? Photos/diagrams showing bad conformation faults are also really helpful for people just starting to learn about it. Seeing an extreme version of the fault gets your eye in for spotting it in a lesser degree. I don't know if anyone used to read the Fuglyhorseoftheday blog? I learnt a lot about conformation reading that (sadly no longer) blog. |

Posted - 04 Sep 2014 : 5:12:53 PM So far we have 1) New photo upload facility 2) Conformation setion - you want a forum and or section on the site for perm reference ? - Also maybe we need to have a set of " standard " conformation photos - anyone got those ??
Keep those ideas coming

Posted - 04 Sep 2014 : 2:18:09 PM Thanks admin for the interest in making photos easier to post. I have a similar thread running on coffee time. Myself and others have said that we are unable to post pics now. |

Posted - 04 Sep 2014 : 1:04:54 PM A conformation section would be great. |

Posted - 04 Sep 2014 : 12:38:33 PM Unfortunately we lost a lot when we lost egbert. Her threads seemed to always be interesting and informative. I know there are a lot of very knowledgeable people on here but they seem to be far more wary of giving opinions. One day I hope to be able to breed the next generation from my boy and would love to know more about different bloodlines, especially personality and temperament as baby would become a family member. |

Posted - 04 Sep 2014 : 10:02:08 AM As most of you probably know I am a striaght Egyptian fan and on another site which sadly folded due to consistent hacking they had a thread where we put up photos of our horses for helpful critique on conformation. I t was very good and the comments were almost all helpful and polite.
A forum for bloodlines, conformation and traits of certain lines would be good where we could look at serious issues. My "nettle picking" thread was good as it hopefully got people picking and also possibly those with laminitics using nettles as a "herbal" help but is not in the same league as discussions on bloodlines, conformation etc.

Posted - 03 Sep 2014 : 11:02:02 PM FB freebie advertising, all well and good but impossible for AL - how would we pay for the 10+gig webspace, the domain names, the extra storage , backups etc. Over 90% of AL is free, making the whole site free would just put an end to the whole AL site, as i said in a previous post, any new things are coming out of my own personal savings as we have no sponsors adding to the kitty. ( and no one wants to pay for a subscription based site )
Some of the new ideas - hopefully will alleviate the " clicky feel " as we are not about pigeonholing horse/lovers owners to Arabian/Cob/Shetland etc etc, this site was meant and still is meant for all those that LOVE Arabians and LOVE Horses.
We do moderate our forum, we try hard to keep conversations pleasant, meaningful and avoid the nastyness that can occur on places like FB. No trolls on AL please!. If you want to know who a person is, check their profile we go to great lenghts to ensure the people here are REAL and not " Alts up to no good ".
PHOTOS -- we are going to add a better way of uploading photos to the site and i am presently trying to find cheaper storage for same ( yes every photo uploaded to AL will be on AL storage so adding to the cost of running the site ) Your Calls have been heard and we will be addressing the Photo issues.
ANY MORE IDEAS ?? Keep them coming.

Posted - 03 Sep 2014 : 7:22:17 PM I like to try and respond to peoples posts because its sad when people dont and it has put me off..to post pictures I have to upload them to photobucket and then resize them and link them and when people dont seem interested you think..oh well I wont bother... that and Im sick of my Arab and wish Id brought a Cob that my friends could ride with out having to out think the whole time!! Arggghhhhh..she is beautiful though and my nice good girl, isnt mine and has outgrown her saddle! |

Posted - 03 Sep 2014 : 7:08:52 PM I think also FB allows us to advertise horses and tack for sale for free. Also people that post on FB are not so anonymous , where on here we just have a user name. I use to love posting on here, but the posting of photos is just too messy, so I don't bother. That's a shame because I have a lot to tell about my Crabbet, Crystal Heartbeat, with photos. Also, I have shied away because of the dreadful rows that sometimes erupt on a thread.....generally one that is about neglect and abuse. It use to be so much more light hearted....'show us your two year olds'....'show us your Crabbets' type of thread. There would be pages of answers and photos. I would look forward to Arabianlines being more 'open' and not so clicky. Whoops better now! |

Posted - 03 Sep 2014 : 6:09:38 PM Is there any way that it could be possible to post photos as easily as on FB? We used to see lots of posts and pics of what people had been doing at competitions etc.
Good news that there is no chance of AL disappearing! |

Posted - 03 Sep 2014 : 4:43:56 PM We have never had sponsors or backers, Rui programs our forum and keeps it running smoothly for us all, our moderators keep the peace and I try to keep ontop of updating the rest of the site by hand ( nothing is automated unfortunately ). Putting ideas and implimenting things do take longer than i would like. As you all know any major change as with any site/business costs big bucks which we do not have, AL has never been about making money off every page ( 10+ gig site with over 432,000 indexed pages on google ) but it does help when you need to make things hppen. Some of the things in the pipeline are being funded by my savings other ideas hopefully can be implimented without having to call in outside help.
So now is a good time if you want us to look into any ideas you guys would like to see implimented on AL. Throw any suggestions / wants this way and we will see what we can do

Posted - 03 Sep 2014 : 1:27:10 PM I love AL and will not 'do' Facebook. Agree about posting pics as I find it impossible so tend not post about my small achievements as people love photos to go with the post.
The support and advice from fellow Arab owners is invaluable when you are surrounded by cobs! Can I also say - Rosie, we would never be bored by Connor's antics he is stunning and a true ambassador of his breed. |

Posted - 03 Sep 2014 : 09:11:36 AM I am glad to read that Paula. I also don't have face book and normally take a look in a hurry as life is so busy but Arabian Lines is a friend and it would be very sad to see it go!
I wonder how many endurance people are regular Aliners? It would be so wonderful to get some sort of regulated/rewarding breeding system of the Arabian breed for endurance in this country - something similar to France? I don't know how it could be achieved and funding would have to be found but it would be good to discuss. |

Posted - 03 Sep 2014 : 08:57:44 AM I was thinking how quiet it was on here the other day, I googled something and an old thread came up on here so I clicked on and thought what a great response it had got compared to what we get today, where have all those old members gone I think its such a shame it used to be such a busy forum, although even the big H & H forum has been quieter the last few weeks so maybe its just the sign of the times, I dontdon'tFacebook cant stand it and wont give in and join even though everyone I know pesters me about joining I just wont.
I have also noticed lots of people read the posts but dont comment obviously lurkers are of plenty such a shame. |

Also, I find that if you put a post up and you don't get many replies, you think that maybe people aren't interested so don't post as often - don't want to bore people? I enjoy it on here but don't have as much to post about now we have lost Rosie, sold Bertie and don't want to bore people with Connors antics . I need to buy another Arab
I think Rosie has hit it on the head!! At one time if you posted on here the response was fab - now it seems that most people just read the post and do not comment |
