I know allot of you by now will be aware of the Prosecution of a lady in Gloucestershire by the RSPCA.
I just fear that allot of us are making terrible comments about this person without knowing all of the facts.
I know very few of the facts myself and I don't know the person involved personally but what I do know from my own experience that any one of us can find ourselves without a job, without money, without a husband/boyfriend to boost us financially.
Now I am not condoning cruelty in any form and the Court, who I am sure have all the facts, will do what they have to do to punish this person but I do feel sorry that things have got this bad for this person. They obviously had no decent friends to call on for help and advice.
I know there are some of you, who will completely disagree with me here and hate me for even feeling sadness for this person. Albeit, I do and I just had to say it.
Perhaps I'll change my mind when I've seen the facts.

LittleArabians I totally agree with everything you have said, there is no excuse for letting those horses get in that state.
littlearabians Posted - 03 Oct 2013 : 7:58:40 PM
loosing your job is no excuse for starving horses (and big respect to you Justine for what you did when in hard times)... she had many horses on loan, if you loose your job long enough to starve horses like that you should have contacted the owners before it got that bad, even if you have no friends people will help if you say you are in trouble and your horses need feeding... yes you might be too proud to ask for help, but that is again something there is no excuse for really, even less so when its other peoples horses involved.... had she send the loan horses back she might have been able to pay for feeding her own..... people have been rescuing her horses, paying for horses that had no passports, I'm sat with a fear that they might have bought some of her loan horses... she or her boyfriend owned Master Blaster, and even though things were very hard and Raji dead she still wanted more then token for people wishing to rescue the rest.... MB for one was NOT advertised cheaply, not even in todays market.... one word sums it up for me GREED.... its like she wanted to breed to make quick/ easy money. IM SO GLAD I NEVER LET HER LEASE MY MARE!!!!

I moved to England I 2009, and left my partner in 2010, I didn't know many people here AT ALL, but a lady I meet only a few times before the split put me in her guest room, for a long time, to get my life back on track and not having to sell/ move horses. I have cut down on ALL special things for me to keep the horses going, not like others letting their horses live of a handful of haylage and a bit of dusty barley, trim the feet themselves in spite of being utter useless at it and never worm, so they can drink champagne and eat oysters.......

my horses come first they always have done, and yes time has been hard, but then I happily eat pasta to have extra money for the horses.... Should life ever get so hard I couldn't feed them I would give them to friends or even shoot them before I would let them starve.... I don't breed on a big scale at all, as I'm a one man band so I breed what I can afford to keep, and don't have more then I can manage the work.

I for one have helped people out as best I could, I saw a post AGES ago on here for a desperately sad girl in trouble which meant she had to sell her beloved mare, as a horse lover her posts made me sad, I contacted her on the AL pm system, her mare came here till she was back on top, the girl still has her horse, but without my help that might not have been possible. Im sure if anyone asks for help people will help!.

Well said as always Caroline!

Nat H - you are obviously a good and caring person. It is a fact that some people are self-serving, cruel, totally lack empathy and have no conscience. I doubt that this awful Fletcher woman will have any guilty feelings. It is also pretty unlikely that she will have 'learned from her mistakes'.

I think we have to look forward and focus on helping the animals, not just those who have suffered already, but also those who COULD suffer in the future if the community does not "keep an eye" on the perpetrator.

I don't think it is a witch hunt to make everyone aware of what this horrible woman has done, nor will it be wrong to keep resurrecting it if there is ANY chance she might be able to act in the same way in the future. We could do with a rogues' gallery really.

NO excuses what so ever for neglect and cruelty!!
Ari Posted - 02 Oct 2013 : 8:38:06 PM
I had a pony on loan for my daughter and the owner never came to see her but that didn't give me the excuse not to care for her. She stayed with us for life.
Just needs to be said....Neglect and cruelty is just that and responsibility remains firmly with the individual who has day to day care of any animal to ensure their well being. There is absolutely no excuse in any circumstance.
sasha Posted - 02 Oct 2013 : 7:01:32 PM

KERRY..

In Dawn's case it was not possible to personally go from france to England, she was very, very poorly... a statement will be going on the thread ' Justice for Raji'
Kerry Wilson Posted - 02 Oct 2013 : 5:28:59 PM
I find it upsetting that she escaped the net in 1995, I know there are worse cases of cruelty to be dealt with and I imagine the rescue charities are stretched to their limits. But there should have been records that she had previous problems.

I also find it worrying that people loan horses out without looking where they will be going(It happens-I have friends who have done that!!) getting references from vets etc or regularly checking up on them. These owners are as responsible for what happens as the loaner imo.
NatH Posted - 02 Oct 2013 : 2:08:38 PM
Yes I agree Joanna_piana, LF should have asked for help long before matters got this bad and completely out of hand. She is certainly guilty of that.

We see many pictures on AL of horses, who have been out on loan, coming back to their owners in terrible condition. There really is no excuse for this.
joanna_piana Posted - 02 Oct 2013 : 12:56:34 PM
Nat I appreciate what you mean as in we can hear and read stuff on the internet but don't actually know the facts for ourselves. What gets to me in this case is Raji was on loan, if she was in difficulties all she had to do was ring Dawn's daughter who had been trying to find them and hand him back instead of hiding therefore I doubt she feels any remorse. There was no need for him to end up like this, very sad for all concerned.
Silver Posted - 02 Oct 2013 : 10:51:08 AM
I'm not sorry for LF and I doubt she will suffer from any regret at all, people like her don't.
sab2 Posted - 02 Oct 2013 : 10:50:20 AM
Sorry i have no sympathy for this woman , she has no conscience if she can do this to any animal , this is not the first time she has done this , fingers crossed Karma catches up with her.
NatH Posted - 02 Oct 2013 : 10:43:44 AM
I knew the Court would sentence LF according to her crime.

I 'just had to say' my feelings in this matter, which I feel I am entitled to.

I would appreciate if all of you who have your views allow me to have mine to.

You must understand, I am not privey to all of the facts in this case, I'm not personally involved and I would never Judge a person or any circumstance without having full knowledge of all the goings on.

However, I am always sorry to hear that a horse has lost his life due to the care, or lack of it given to him by Humans. Whether it be a kids pony or a fine Arabian stallion like Raji.

I'm sorry for Dawn, who loved him so much and I'm sorry for Dawn's family, who have lost both Dawn and now her prized possession.

I am also sorry for LF, who obviously has this on her conscience for the rest of her life. I hope she learns from this terrible situation. She will suffer this regret for the rest of her days I'm sure.

It says on that FaceBook thread "and do not wish a Witch Hunt as others on Arabian lines have called it" I was quite interested to read the comments there, having the pleasure of owning one of her apparent previous victims, until I read that .... sigh .... walks away ....

there are a couple more threads leading from this one, regarding people getting horses/foals away from her very recently..

what is the facebook thread.. i cant find it...
gossy Posted - 01 Oct 2013 : 1:56:00 PM
do we know which court she is due to be prosecuted in? Gloucester/Bristol
Pop Posted - 01 Oct 2013 : 1:45:55 PM
"She is due to be committed on the 1st October."

I suppose pleading guilty is a good indicator that she was; but I guess not 100% proof, spose it's possible to plead guilty even if you are not? If she is, then, on behalf of all those who were neglected, I hope the punishment fits the crime.
sasha Posted - 01 Oct 2013 : 1:10:23 PM

The facebook thread on this has recently brought this to the attention of a lot of people including some who witnessed this neglect in the 1990's and these people have been very upset that LF has caused more neglect since!
The thread is there for you to read.
The problem is partly due to the fact that she has moved her horses around from yard to yard, field to field....
moatside Posted - 01 Oct 2013 : 10:26:14 AM
I agree that neglect, in any form, cannot be condoned but what worries me is why it has not been common knowledge if it has been going on for so long?

FreyaG Posted - 01 Oct 2013 : 10:25:36 AM
Agree , Ari, that there is no excuse for neglect or cruelty.

I struggle to understand this and other reported cases.
If we can study behaviour we can hopefully intervene, if aware of early signs and prevent more suffering.

Found this USA article which did enlighten me as the author explains that ignorance is often the main factor but also suggests that some people 'collect' animals as a hoarding type behaviour.

I don't excuse neglect and suspect that some are motivated by greed - e.g. puppy farms.

Perhaps a similar blog should be written on what to do for the best if concerned re a UK horse as the obvious one - call the RSPCA - has not apparently always had an effective outcome.

This may sound sad but believe me it's not; I have never been able to rely on a husband or boyfriends to boost my income, had much experience of both (being 50+) and brought up a horse loving daughter as a single mum. Always been independent, if I lost my job that would be devastating and it can happen to anybody in today's economic climate but family and friends would help and if not I would go without myself and get help for animals. Having said that I have kept my horse and other animal responsibilities within my means to look after them properly.
There is no excuse in my eyes for neglect of any kind.
NatH Posted - 30 Sep 2013 : 2:23:01 PM
If this person has such a bad reputation why haven't I heard of it before now.

I've been involved with Arabian Horses for nearly 30 years and I live less than 1 hour away from this person.

I haven't lived in a bubble for that 30 years, I've been actively showing and socialising with people in the Arab Horse World. In fact its fair to say my life is the Arabian Horse.

This is why I believe if someone is known to be a bad egg we really ought to name and shame them to stop any un necessary suffering.

All this said until I know all of the facts in this case, I really would not want to Judge them. You guys might be privey to more information than I have and I do respect your comments.
