Just seen that at the next sale (26th)

"We have a special section to start the sale with approx 50 Caspian/CaspianArabian/Miniature Sport Ponies ..."

Wish I could get the time off work. Not to buy, just to have a look at them.

Quite a few of these ponies have gone to knowledgeable people who are used to the breed. They are being started properly, wormed and I am sure will be looking for homes when they are ready. Things ARE looking up for them now I am sure. One lady has gone round the dealers and bought a few to make sure they don't end up in bad homes. Obviously the dealers made a profit on them, but I take my hat off to anyone who is giving these ponies time and attention. It is terrible that this has happened. They are, however lovely ponies - not in the dire state they were in last winter and there were certainly a few stunners go through the ring at York. If I had a small child I would not hesitate to track down one of these ponies.

Garnet, yes such a shame the Group folded. they were fantastic shows. Arena UK and Hillhouse were wonderful venues.

Misshana, I too remember Darkhorse Dorian - I used to love the LEMAHS shows. How sad that it has come to this.

Jackiedo. As I said I had no idea what had happened here .

There have been rumours abour the condition of this person's horses for YEARS. I had a friend who lent her a purebred mare - the mare came back in such a state, physical AND mental that they had no option but to have her put down, as she would have had no quality of life. I am glad that action has finally been taken and that she won't be able to pull the wool over anyone else's eyes.

I agree Callisto, but the owner publicised the sale as much as she could and I am very sure she was shocked at those prices too. Many have been sold since. I am quite sure that there was a place of safety ready for every one of those ponies rather than them be sold like that.
Callisto Posted - 14 Sep 2013 : 11:22:33 AM
Without knowing any of the detail, my only hope is that the ponies didn't go from the frying pan into the fire - selling at those low prices at auction.(I know a number went to good homes, but what about the others?)

jackiedo Posted - 14 Sep 2013 : 10:35:27 AM
Misshana what do you class as deliberate neglect? health/age/money does not explain what happened here. this has been a long time coming. The last time I saw Dorian was when I called to that yard to buy a bridle for Az. He was standing in a stable and looked about 15.2hh as he was perched on a muck heap. he had sores all the way down his face. I am only prepared to state what I have seen myself, but I am sure that the rest will be in the public domain soon. It won't come from me I can assure you, but once something gets into the press it is hard to close the door

I don't know what happened here or the lady concerned, but I do remember the Darkhorse ponies always being at our shows when I was on the committee of Lincs and East Midlands AHS Group. It seems terribly sad to me that someone who has put so much into breeding her ponies over such a long period, loses them in this way. I know there is a vast different between deliberate neglect or just unable to look after them properly for whatever reason (health/age/money) just seems a very sad end to a long established stud who bred some lovely children's ponies. I particularly remember Darkhorse Dorian from that era.

It is published in Barnsley Chronicle today that yesterday the breeder of these ponies received a ten year ban abd a 9 day suspended sentance for animal cruelty. I hope this is the end of it.

Does anyone know if Darkhorse Versace sold? He is currently in for training at Yorkshire Equine Academy.
sasha Posted - 04 Aug 2013 : 5:26:13 PM

I bet the owner was shocked, but in my opinion.. just too many to put through one sale... she would have been better selling them in smaller lots...Supply exceeding demand.
jackiedo Posted - 04 Aug 2013 : 3:15:52 PM
Saddlebred I think the vendor was as shocked at the prices as anyone, the sale was very widely publicised and was also on the web.
saddlebred Posted - 04 Aug 2013 : 10:02:37 AM
This is just too sad. Rare breed ponies selling for 30gn :( I hope they haven't gone to meat! Well done to those who have saved them. Shame that there isn't some legal restriction to rare breeds going to meat.

Vera is that Mystery? If so she is fine

I wish I hadn't looked as Morris's mother was sent to the sale. Her description even mentions Morris's success. She is listed as N/S which I presume to be N/S.

She is 19 years old
jackiedo Posted - 03 Aug 2013 : 5:05:54 PM
If I found the money would anyone give her a good home?
Pasch Posted - 03 Aug 2013 : 10:46:07 AM
Oh no...nobody needs her?
sasha Posted - 03 Aug 2013 : 08:14:48 AM

The grey one at £350 on Dragon Driving is now reduced to £150 O.N.O.

Does anyone know what happened to Darkhorse Danesh? I would be interested xx
zooscat Posted - 29 Jul 2013 : 6:48:31 PM
indeed. The breeder must have a very heavy heart. I cannot imagine having to part with so many lovely creatures to an uncertain future. Lucky ones that have known safe homes. I hope that others may have love, comfort and understanding owners too.

We were talking to a lady yesterday at the show who had been to York sale, she said she was so annoyed as they had put a mare and foal in a pen beside a stallion , she said the mare was very distressed as the stallion was making a fuss and she was trying to defend her foal, surely they should not be allowed to do this when the allocate pens for the ponies they cannot be that stupid that they don,t realise you cannot put stallions next to mares, there were also a pen full of very poor shetlands who only made about 8gns , how very sad , the breeders must realise its foolhardy to breed ponies at the moment . I don,t think they were anything to do do with the Darkhorse ponies . So pleased that you know of some that are safe bathleyhills, i should of gone and bought a couple the mares , they would of been a nice cross to my B stallion for the future when things hopefully pick up.
