Posted - 05 May 2013 : 10:22:54 PM Interested to hear about Arab X's especially unusual crosses.... I have a home bred 5 yr old Quarab filly...sire Rameed my old Crabbet stallion out of my QH mare... Ruby looks like a QH, moves & thinks like one... lol not sure where her Arab half is hidden Two friends of mine bred Arab Xs... one was out of a Dales mare... the resulting filly looked like a big cob body wise but with finer legs... & sadly had a very unstable temperament :( The other one was out of a Fell mare & just looked like a well built Arab. Posted - 12 May 2013 : 08:44:49 AM My first pony was arab x shetland. A gorgeous skewbald about 13.2hh built like a shetland (to look at him you would doubt any arab blood at all) but had the speed, brain and agility of the arab. He would jump anything you pointed him at and was a brilliant pony who looked after me well. He was always my best friend and very 'funny' about people he thought were invading my personal space. Sadly I lost him a couple of years ago at age 31 after having him for 20 years. He was possibly my horse of a lifetime. |

Posted - 11 May 2013 : 10:15:01 PM I was reading a thread about Friesians on another forum and someone posted a photo of this boy. I thought that he should be added to this thread as he's 3/4 Friesian and 1/4 arab. :)

Posted - 11 May 2013 : 09:46:54 AM And this thread just goes to show why the part bred classes at shows are shooting themselves in the foot aiming at the 'bay riding horse type'. Not that there's anything wrong with the bay riding horse type (indeed I love bay riding horses) it's just the part bred is so so so much more diverse than that.
We don't celebrate the part bred well enough IMO |

Posted - 10 May 2013 : 3:54:52 PM I'm sure karen won't mind me putting this here but I have two of her spotty girls, this is one of them, by Calimeer out of an appy mare.
This little girl is hopefully in foal to Vervencio for a 75% and hopefully spotty foal!! |

Hello HTR, well in the UK an Australian stock horse would be very unusual... do you have any photos?

Posted - 10 May 2013 : 10:39:11 AM Not at all sure if this qualifies as 'strange' but I have an arabian x australian stock horse. He's very much a work in progress but such a beautiful temperament. He's palomino. |

Posted - 09 May 2013 : 10:12:39 PM My 4yo is 50% arab and 50% traditional cob. I know of arab x welsh cobs but he is the only one I know of this cross. He is turning out even nicer than expected. He is a small hunter type which I think is nice to see as all the arab x I see in classes are more srt's. |

Posted - 07 May 2013 : 08:26:38 AM My Freya is Arab x British Spotted Pony.... No spots as of yet, but the vet thought maybe there were some patched on the rump that looked as though they may darken as she ages. Not sure how I feel about a liver chestnut with spots on her bum, but we'll see!!! |

Posted - 06 May 2013 : 8:57:51 PM OK now heres a little tale.... When living at a prev, prev farm... our neighbour had lots of very rough & scruffy sort of coloured ponies living out on the open hill next to us.... one particular horrible, coloured stallion, parrot mouthed, BAD conformation, etc, etc.... was a real pain in the ass when riding out.... Oh he passed all his "traits" onto his offspring... inc the parrot mouth... Anyway.. my main riding horse at that time was a 15hh bright chestnut mare by Midnight Gold (loved her to bits & still miss her so much), who was a real madam!!!! So.. one day my neighbour stopped me to talk.... & he offered me the services of the above ****ty coloured stallion for my mare... He said we could stand her in a big ditch so his 12 HH something stallion could climb aboard!!!! I swear Zahera understood ever word he said because the look on her face was a complete picture... LOL :D If a horse could say.. No Way... she certainly did that day Judith |

Posted - 06 May 2013 : 8:43:55 PM my first pony was a shetland and when my mum bought her they asked if she would like her covered before delivering her. so she arrived in foal to a very good Arab called blue magic. magic angel as she was named, her shetland mum being called Angela, was skewbald. we bred several foals from her. she went to pure bred Arabs and produced skewbald 3/4 Arabs. at this time coloured Arabs were not the "in" thing and when she produced a skewbald by a biddesden stalion the stud groom told mum to keep it quite! she also produced a palomino. she was very fast, only about 12 hands had an Arab body but sadly only shetland type legs! |

Posted - 06 May 2013 : 7:21:57 PM Great story Pashon!
Mikhan of Pulpits (Mikeno x Dragonfly) had some very useful foals to both Dartmoor and also to Connemara mares in the 70s & 80s - most used to do well locally.
