I know that I might be considered an old fashioned sort of person, but since when does a candidate for this prestigious position tout for votes on F.B?

I find the whole thing very distasteful.

Missed the campaigner on FB. (Obviously not one of my 'friends') I have to ask WHY whoever it is should feel the need to go on a networking site at all? Voting papers and associated literature is sent out to all AHS members anyway, so what more can be said.

I may be old-fashioned in my view, but I feel there is a right and wrong way to go about things. At the end of the day lets hope the Best Candidate wins the Vote.

If people feel that strongly about there beinga support group for one and not the other why has nobody thought to just set one up rather than complain about it?

Couldn't agree more, it's why i read rather than post in case i was linched!!!!!!!!!!

Applause I know one candidate breeds part breds and anglo's. In my opinion as it happens she makes the perfect candidate.
The point I'm making is people who soley breed part breds or anglo's are able to put themselves forward to be president and so they should, it's a free country, also that the originator of this thread felt it unfair and wrong that one candidate should promote themselves online.
I just think if one candidate asks for vote online then both should have the ability to do the same.
If one does not have access to these forums or doesn't want to then they will be at a disadvantage that is what is very unfair ....just my opinion here!

I'm not saying it is right or wrong to campaign for votes online as in this day and age the internet is used more and more and trying to get votes for oneself makes it an obvious tool.

One problem I find when posting on here is people think you are politically motivated and say things on here in such a way to have a dig or get support? Strangely I have no political motive on either candidate and just soley look at their resume to choose my president.

Years ago I never imagined that while enjoying my hobby I would have to tread so carefully for fear of upsetting the wrong people in life... sad :(

Unless i'm missinig something, one of the candidates is a breeder and judge of anglo and part breds and has been for many years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And may i just say that we are not all computor literate!
SueB Posted - 27 Mar 2011 : 12:02:25 PM

I wasn't going to post on here again, but really wanted to say that I would have thought people could at least give Susan a bit of grace as she took on the role during possibly her worst year. Maybe she could have had more guidance?
I sincerely hope she goes for it again at a later date, she at least got us in H&H for all the right reasons with her superb article on choosing the arabian for it's athletic use rather than just it's looks.
If any Anglo or Partbred person like SueN or Lynda on this thread stood for president I would be the first to vote for them in and be proud of them standing. I wish more Part bred/Anglo people would stand for president, does it matter what you breed as long as you are committed and want to represent the society?
The voting aspect is a difficult one, JMO here but if one campagnes online then the other should as well, maybe start a page for both? it's fair then.

Shouldn't people have the right to support their choice anyway they like? Seems to me anyone standing for a position of power has the right to canvas for votes.....Ihate turning on the tv during election time only to find the program i want to watch is starting 10 mins late due to a party political broadcast but i don't think it distasteful or go on line to complain...!!

Well said alkarif - I'm in total agreement with you - Alfie was excellent as was Susan (and with all the worries she had on her mind last year) I thought she was top class !!!!!!!

Lets hope that whoever is voted on makes the same concerted afforts that Alf Hallworth did. It is so gratifying to see someone taking an active approach, visiting Groups and Shows and meeting everyone with a friendly and enthusiastic attitude. Susan George too, has been an excellent Ambassador.

We look forward to seeing who our new President will be for the coming year or so. Best Wishes to whoever takes up the post.
garnet Posted - 25 Mar 2011 : 7:53:25 PM
I agree that Alf Hallworth was a wonderful President - the only one I have met and spoken to during all the years I was a member of the AHS. He made the points award presentations for both the North Staffs and the North Wales groups and took the trouble to come round and speak to us individually afterwards, taking an interest in the horses who had won awards - in my case part-breds of course. If there had been more people like him involved with the AHS I would probably still be a member now.

I also feel that Susan George is a good ambassador for the Society, but to omit any mention of the Anglos and Part-breds in the HOYS catalogue was certainly an opportunity missed - after all, the Arab influence is on show in so many classes, from the small part-bred riding ponies to hacks and riding horses, not to mention coloureds, workers etc etc. You might even see a big part-bred in the private driving class one of these days!
SueN Posted - 25 Mar 2011 : 4:06:41 PM
Alf Hallworth was a wonderful president - he went to visit every group in the country.

Yes, he was invited to the Cherif. It was in fact decided that he would be the last president/council member to be asked to join us, as no one had answered our countless invitations for years!! Alf was a delight to entertain and was completely bowled over by the standard and turn out of our ridden Anglo and Part breds. So much so, he is now back to breeding anglos as well as pure breds.

That's the sort of president we need. Someone who is interested in all aspects of our society.
carole ferguson Posted - 25 Mar 2011 : 3:54:09 PM
I have 2 part-breds as well as 1 pure bred - so I know who I will be voting for !!!
daf Posted - 25 Mar 2011 : 3:41:23 PM
Agree with Alistair that the Anglo does appear to be the poorer relation.

I do recall Alf Hallworth who was president a couple of years ago being at the Cherif and i did think it made a change to see someone from the AHS there- afterall it is the championship show for the anglos and parts.

Have to admit i did read the statements on the voting and kept an eye out for an appreciation of anglos as well as purebreds and of course ridden too.
Lynda Posted - 25 Mar 2011 : 3:38:46 PM
Alistair,

I agree with all you have said in your reply. The Anglo and part-breds are the most "neglected" area within the AHS. I would suspect that this is one of the reasons one so many Anglos have gone elsewhere.
alistair leslie Posted - 25 Mar 2011 : 3:27:19 PM

Jas
it seems to be the most "neglected" section of the membership when one considers that the purpose of the Ahs is to promote light horse breeding .
jas Posted - 25 Mar 2011 : 10:46:06 AM
"How big is the Anglo section would you say"?
"Could it be a committee by itself maybe"?

I'm sure that you are aware that the Anglo section is by no means large.

No, it could not be a committee by itself - what would be the benefit anyway?
justine Posted - 24 Mar 2011 : 9:16:47 PM
MIKE! ALL THE WAY!
SueB Posted - 24 Mar 2011 : 8:45:26 PM

To think some years no one wanted to be president now we have two. Yes I see what you mean with the other candidate, I meant a dedicated breeder of just Anglo's or Part Breds to stand.

Well we know one thing we will at least have a president this year!
templars Posted - 24 Mar 2011 : 8:29:15 PM
Too late for touting for us - our vote is cast and the criterion we chose - moral fibre. Can't comment on one of the candidates but the other has, to us, shown integrity and courage. That's not to say the other hasn't got these qualities, we just haven't seen it evidenced in terms of the AHS and ergo - 2 X's for the same candidate from Team Templars.
Elainem Posted - 24 Mar 2011 : 8:13:50 PM
Surely that's what we have on offer this year, someone who breeds, Pure, Anglo and Part Breds!

Elaine
SueB Posted - 24 Mar 2011 : 7:33:33 PM

Why doesn't someone from Anglo Breeders or Part Bred Breeders put up themselves to be president?

alistair leslie Posted - 24 Mar 2011 : 6:31:01 PM

jas Posted - 24 Mar 2011 : 5:46:48 PM
There were two articles on pure breds in the HOYS programme written by our president last year.

I do know that Susan George had a terrible year to cope with, but considering how many anglo and part bred exhibit at HOYS - this was another opportunity missed, and the fact that they were not even mentioned in either write up, was a sad indictment for the society.

Yes it would be a great move to have a president whose knowledge and experience covers all three sections of the society.
