Posted - 21 Feb 2011 : 1:25:47 PM Hey Sheena.
I worked at Toskhara Arabians many moons ago and always dreamt of showing one of her mares. Christine gave me some brill tips, but this one has always stuck with me:
Before you even think of running with a horse - practice running around a menage (sand is the worst to run on but if you master that - you will fly on grass....!!!)
You may feel daft - but it really helps.
Its so rewarding doing it all yourself...I trained Mila myself and although she isnt professional trained and may not stand as perfect as the pro's horses, she still does what I intend for her to do and, she has always been placed high up the line (which is just the cherry on the cake) Go and watch the pro's, and get a feel for your filly too... each horse learns differently..... you cant back and brake a horse by reading a book... so it'll be the same for your in hand training.
Good luck this year if you are out and about

Posted - 17 Feb 2011 : 10:27:37 PM Have you got the book by Sharon Byford. It's an all round book but has really good sections about turnout and how to do a general stand up :) It's a really nice book. |
