Wow!! He is looking amazing I don't profess to be a bloodlines expert, but he has always been one of my favorite boys |

Posted - 19 Feb 2011 : 5:28:30 PM Fantastic thread! Love Spearmint, I remember seeing him proudly paraded at Al Waha a few years ago, superb! Fell in love with Daas too ... but that's another story! |

Posted - 18 Feb 2011 : 9:40:18 PM Great pics of Spearmint he looks fab!
Sorry to say that his half brother Ramoth died in 2010 (stated on owners website), although many of his progeny have been very successful in endurance (more than 30 qualified at 120km and more!). I am not sure if Ramoth left any pure Courthouse / Old English progeny that has remained entire or of breeding age / who have been bred to Old English Arabs, which is a great shame.
Has any of Spearmints progeny been successful in Endurance?

Posted - 17 Feb 2011 : 4:42:05 PM Kathy, such lovely pictures of Spearmint. I am amazed how much Taroub looks like him in the head shot. I had to look twice. I can only hope that Boo will live as long as his dad Thanks for sharing the pictures |

Posted - 22 Jan 2011 : 12:05:13 PM Spearmint is a lovely "old" chap - altho you'd never suggest to him he was old!!!
So pleased to hear that his frozen semen is so potent - as everyone says great for those who don't want to travel their horses.
Stay well Spearmint I have just the young lady for you in a couple of years - complete with Courthouse/Crabbet blood as well. |

Posted - 21 Jan 2011 : 10:27:51 PM It was my mare Cacharel who failed to get in foal with frozen semen from Spearmint. We took a very big chance on this as Cacharel was 22 when we tried, there was absolutely no problem with the semen or the fantastic veterinary service from Lisa and Phillippa.
I wouldn't hesitate to use it again, but would use a younger mare !

Posted - 12 Jan 2011 : 6:54:56 PM I'm so glad Spearmint is still alive and well and covering. I saw him several times over the years and I particularly remember he had THE MOST INCREDIBLE TROT.
What I have observed about the Courthouse stock I have seen is that they tend to have very good toplines and strong loins.

Posted - 12 Jan 2011 : 06:18:31 AM The test batch of Spearmint's semen was unfrozen at West Kington at 70% motility!! We were amazed.

Posted - 11 Jan 2011 : 7:00:51 PM We weren't on one mare, but can't blame the semen, Spearmint's semen looked excellent under the microscope. We do get very good results with frozen semen but sometimes even though everything goes like clockwork and the semen looks great, it just doesn't happen, I must say though the semen looked very good and I believe that it was collected at West Kington who are EXCELLENT, so I wouldn't give up if all is well with the mare and you have more doses.... Spearmint is worth the effort I think!!! There is also a Spearmint son who is also available by frozen and chilled but don't want to get in trouble for advertising so if anyone interested please pm me. |

Posted - 11 Jan 2011 : 6:54:19 PM Has anyone been successful with the frozen, I wasnt, but it was at the backend of the season,so was not really a good time? |
P.S |
Posted - 11 Jan 2011 : 5:54:34 PM um i do think you'll all find spearmint has frozen semen available- so there is definitely no excuse to let his breed lines vanish, he isnt getting any younger! |

Posted - 11 Jan 2011 : 1:30:21 PM There was a Courthouse stallion that I always admired from photos but never heard much about. He was a bay called Benjamin and to my young eyes he looked like the perfect horse. I managed to see some of his descendants in the flesh - Sianah Gold, Dezert Romance and Persimmon and admired Diamond Jubilee and Sorbus from photos but it seemed a shame that he didn't catch on as it were. Even in my book on the Courthouse stud he barely gets a mention.
Another horse I also liked the look of, again from photos was a mare called Celina.
If anyone knows anything about Benjamin or has any of his descendants, I would love to hear about them.

Posted - 10 Jan 2011 : 8:28:24 PM 'There is an old Courthouse x Barton stallion still in the UK, he was standing at stud last year called Zalim (Bayazar x Zareen), he has only 1 pure bred offspring to my knowledge.
Another stallion in France (where a great many of the Courthouse horses went after his death) is, Ramoth is owned by Chevaux D'Armor website www.chevaux-armor.com who are a big Endurance breeder.
Siroco another Courthouse arabian is owned by Madame Anne Francois.' Oops nearly forgot Zalims (Bayazar x Zareen) he is also a nice stallion & sucessful racehorse in his day, I'm not sure if he's still with us either as was born in 83', his owner said she would cover with him in 2008.
Hi Debbie - Zalim has a 17 pure/anglo offspring, four pure from mares at our stud, in an attempt to preserve the Barton Lodge-Nuhra /Courthouse lines.
Zalim was owned for a short time by Nola Stephens, before being sold to Gail Hodgson for Arab Racing - (Gail owned and trained the well known Anglo race horse 'Edmunds Dante' who was jockeyed by Sarah Kellaaway)
We bought two foundation mares from George White, hence they contained a good percentage of Courthouse blood, and we covered the mares with Zalim to keep his lines going on Barton Lodge Mares:-
Mare - Guisburn Szareen out of Shimsha - Shimnar (Samhan/Atrisha) / Sayada (El Shaklan/Razehra) Mare - Guisburn Szaleem out of Shimsha Stallion - Guisburn Zalim out of Guisburn Shazehra (Crusader/Shimsha) Mare - Guisburn Kahara out of Karera - Mehzeer (Mehriz/Alzehra) / Zareen (Darjeel/Razehra)
Zalim senior is still alive and well, living in North Yorkshire, he has an Anglo Arab foal due March/April this year, his chestnut son is with us at the moment, but we have had a few enquiries about parting with him and are considering whether to let him go
Hope this helps!
Guisburn Zhalim - junior
