Posted - 26 Aug 2010 : 1:53:22 PM Just seen the results of the sale on the website, cant believe how bad its got !! So glad in a way i didnt go seeing how little the colt i wanted to bid on went for, would have been very hard for me not to have bid on him. Was quite surprised the vendors let him go for that little but i guess with the threat of lack of hay and prices and the possiblity of another harsh winter they would rather they go for less money. So sad hope they found good homes. |

Posted - 26 Aug 2010 : 11:59:56 AM we bid on the grey arab filly and also on the appaloosa filly - lost out on both. we did make an offer for a very underweight TB chestnut filly who didnt even get sold for £400 but the owner wouldnt take less than £400 and was going to race her again - so sad - she would have needed a year in the field just to get her to a decent weight again
some TB mares that werent even broken were going for nearly £2k, whereas a 6 yr old TB gelding who had raced and was schooling over 2'9 jumps only went for £800! was all a bit crazy |

I couldn't agree more!
I had to ask where the Arabs were as they had been shoved in the overspill stables down in the corner which I didn't know existed!!
I think ( don't quote me on this!) the two grey geldings have gone racing abroard - Poland possibly ????
I very, very, very nearly came home with a TB!!!!!!! Had sudden aspirations of going hunting again this winter until Mum said NO! in that tone that however old you are, you kinda have to listen!!! And then on the way home she said I hope he's gone somewhere nice!!!! I sulked then!! Really grown up!!!!!!!

Posted - 26 Aug 2010 : 09:55:25 AM very depressing.......prices for the TB's and the arabs were just awful, it was a sad day i thought, end of an era. Never seen it so quiet at Ascot where were all you arab people?!! The guy who brought the 2 grey geldings from Bill Smith had a bargain there, i would have brought the 4 yr old if I wasn't injured yet again. |

Posted - 07 Aug 2010 : 07:29:09 AM Any a liners thinking of buying just a Quick heads up. We have returned home with lots from this sale for the last five years and have been very happy with all of them. But if it says in catalogue backed and ridden away treat them as unbroken as we got one that was definitely none of above. Luckily no one was hurt as this horse erupted across stable yard with saddle on and did the same in lunge pen for a further month, he didn't like having a saddle on at all. Maybe a one off but be careful. |

Posted - 06 Aug 2010 : 11:26:10 PM Yup - me too. But bearing in mind I can't sell the lovely colt I bred, I have no place going to look at other people's (who are bred similarly ). BUT - it is a good day out, Rose Aboud is the love of my life and came from these sales, and I almost can't resist not going for a 3rd year in a row |

Posted - 06 Aug 2010 : 08:03:32 AM I know it's slightly off thread, but seeing the mention of Malvern can you tell me what the quality is like there & in your guestimate what the average price fetched is? I ask becasue 1) thinking of sending a very well bred 2 yr old eventing bred youngster there 2) when i looked up the record of the last sale most seemed to fetch under 2000 which made me question whether it was a high quality sale or a normal riding horse level sale. All onfo apreciated as I don't want to waste a journey towing a trailer as our girlie definately bred to perform at high level & very gorgeous (yes I am biased). |

Posted - 05 Aug 2010 : 4:42:09 PM Chuckling at Pauls shameless storing of the fabled wheelbarrow..............
In these dodgy economic times - what better way to ensure poverty, but to buy a new racing/endurance pony?? |
