I've been reading favorable reports about using Original Listerine mouthwash, mixed 50/50 with water being used as a horsefly repellent.

Apparently it has to be the original stuff, not minty fresh or whatever!!

Has anyone tried this?

Baby Oil? in a fly repellant, are you being serious. On a sunny day it would be like putting your horse in a deep fat fryer... I would not recommend this.

putting a few drops of washing up liquid in the mix and giving it a shake will help it stick to the coat....

Vinegar also helps repel and heal bites .Dilute80/20 water to vinegar roughly
Nice coat also .

If it worked would use it on me as well having been bitten twice by horseflies.

Yes, I've heard of it and used it. There was a thread on another forum (egyptian) which suggested it.

Well it might just work because thinking about it listerine smells like the fly repellent the local farmer uses on his sheep!
