I've been reading favorable reports about using Original Listerine mouthwash, mixed 50/50 with water being used as a horsefly repellent.

Apparently it has to be the original stuff, not minty fresh or whatever!!

Has anyone tried this?

Yes, I've heard of it and used it. There was a thread on another forum (egyptian) which suggested it.

putting a few drops of washing up liquid in the mix and giving it a shake will help it stick to the coat....

Use baby oil to dilute it (one third Listerine two thirds baby oil) this sticks to the coat and skin much better. I use this as an anti itch on manes and tails and have done for years n years!! It's fly repelling side effects good too though!! I'm actually using the blue flavour at the moment (it was on offer!!!!) but only on the chestnuts as it will stain a grey goat, I found the origional flavour stained the grey also!!

PS xx

Baby Oil? in a fly repellant, are you being serious. On a sunny day it would be like putting your horse in a deep fat fryer... I would not recommend this.
