Can anyone tell me if there is a weed killer thats kills all weeds, its a horse pasture field so don't want to kill the grass.
I have the product called pastor though it does not kill some weeds.
or am i better getting someone in to spray it for me.

I got my local contractor to spray my fields. I have 4 acres and it took him 20 mins and cost about £65. All the buttercups and weeds are dead . Keep horses off for 2 weeks he advised.
He reckons that next year we may only need spot spraying,
The only paddock he could not do is one that has house on 2 sides , this is an H and s issue and also don't want to kill neighbours gardens off if there is drift.!!!

With Grazon 90 it's 7 days you have to keep livestock off but preferably 3 weeks, you could always put up temporary electric fence to section paddock. Also if you do use Grazon 90, don't forget to mow the buttercups a few days BEFORE you spray  |

I have 1 field and no where else to put my 2, and am riddled with buttercups.
I know that you have to keep the horses off of the field for 14 days after - does anyone have any reccomendations? |

Suelin, good point, I think the spot spray amount is smaller, or maybe the other way round. The label has very small writing and there are different instructions for different circumstances. Will search for a ragwort and try it stronger, but I've only had 3 so far and cannot find anymore. Would be brilliant if that works because its always a worry that you have all the root up. Thanks :) |

It does kill buttercups but only if you cut them and then spray a couple of days later. If you don't cut them, they go 'sad looking' and then recover. |

Oh well i bought some grazon 90 from my local agricultural place, no questions asked.
Just spent 2 hrs spraying with a knapsack and after reading on here not to cut buttercups i didn't, i hope they die off?
Will let you know.

Pastor doesnt kill buttercups - have just spent £400 having the fields sprayed only for the guy to admit he used the wrong stuff! Lovely display of buttercup now appearing!! UUURRRggghhh |

I have always found that Grazon kills ragwort with no trouble at all. Are using the correct proportions? |

I had my field sprayed last week, now any buttercups, daisies, dandelions,and every other odd weed are all curled up and on their way out.
I used Depitox (2.4d) and Isomec (cmpp) I mix the Isomec in with the Depitox because I have trefoil in the field ( a clover type weed with yellow flowers and other weedkillers don't do anything.
Grazon is too expensive when you have 5 acres to do, although I know its very good. |

Maybe what you have is stronger than Grazon and will kill the buttercups without cutting, really don't know but Grazon doesnt kill Ragwort, so maybe not as strong, if thats how it works. I only get about 5 to 10 (first year) ragwort plants each year so I dig them out, but I did try Grazon on one of them last year and it looked like it had worked because the leaves died but I dug it up and the roots were still alive. If you are sraying yourself, you could try spraying a small patch of the Buttercups, give it a week or so and see what happens. As I recall, the buttercups look like they are going to die, but then seem to recover, so maybe try a small patch of cut and a small patch of uncut. Im assuming that if you go ahead and spray them all uncut, and it doesnt work, you have to wait a year before treating again?, but maybe not if you are spot spraying, but not sure. I had a terrible OCD phase with weeds, but I'm over it now. |

Hi again
just to say I ordered some headland polo from the above site on Saturday and didn't have to give my holding number. I spoke to them this morning and they said courier picked the parcel up from them yesterday and I should have it by tomorrow... I'll let you know what happens :-)
After looking at all the products I thought this one was best for me as I also have ragwort... Thonow wondering if I too should top the buttercups??? |

Hi minimate,
Try you local agricultural merchant/feed merchant, I didn't give any details when I bought mine Although it does say on the label I should have some kind of certificate for spraying.
What area do you live in?

Hi,
In order to purchase some of Grazon I have just made a few searches regarding obtaining a Holding number for the piece of land.
Apparently the website I looked at says the Holding number scheme is a Defra register - one of the uses of which is locate animals in the case of disease.
- Not sure if I want to register now as I am not sure I want the location of my horses to be known in such circumstances

I agree with Pop, I use Grazon 90 but it has no effect on the dreaded creeping buttercups UNLESS you cut them first and spray a few days later.
Horses have to be kept off for a minimum of one week and all weeds are dead by end of 3 weeks. You do have to wait 6 weeks after spraying before you can re-seed and can't spray for a year if you have already re-seeded.
Cost me around £48 plus vat for a 1 litre bottle, I use 30ml to 5ltrs of water in a sprayer.
Brilliant stuff!

Yes, don't cut before spraying, except the buttercups which do need to be cut before spraying otherwise its not effective, that's not my opinion, I got in a land management expert to deal with them and thats what he did and it worked immediately, whereas just spraying them didn't.. |

Best not to cut before spraying - the Grazon is absorbed through the leaf into the roots.
1 litre will be more than enough for 1 acre. |

Grazon is brilliant, i've found it the best. But if you want it to make a good job of the buttercups you need to cut them and then spray a few days later.
It says keep them off for 7 days I think, but I always leave it for 14 days, just to be safe. |

Grazon 90 sounds as if it would be the best for dockens and buttercups. How much would I need to buy for an acre? My small paddock is infested with them and we still don't have much grass!!
How long do you need to keep them off the ground after spraying?

We also use a product that kills all weed but leave the grass.
The only thing is it kills the clover too !
This year I have done it myself and left a few thistles since some of the horses loves to eat the flowers on them. I have been told thistles holds much oil and nutrition. Only they need to be careful when collecting
If we cut some and let them dry a few days - all the horses choose them over the grass.

That's interesting Judith, my merchant has only started to ask this year. The law is such an ass.
I expect that one can buy online but the same rules would apply I guess. Personally I always go in to the merchants to buy stuff like this. |
