Where do you all buy your wormers from? I usually get mine from either the local feed place or occasionally the vet (not a cheap option!!).

I see various websites selling wormers and just wondered who does the best deal? I am looking for either Equimax or Eqvalan Duo and I need 3 tubes.

Our yard recently did a bulk order on-line (but I can't remember where from, p.m. me if you'd like me to find out) and a years supply i.e. Equest x2 and Pramox x2 was £44.00 which is much cheaper. Interestingly, it was cheaper to buy seperately than in the One Year worming pack (which contains the same wormers in a cardboard box)!

Enjoyed reading this post.I like to save a bit of money - don't we all!
I rang Hyperdrug up yesterday teatime & ordered 5 syringes of Strongid-P. It had arrived this morning while I was at work so luckily they left the parcel for me.
I have saved just over £14 ,compared to our local feed merchant, so well chuffed!

I am not sure where you got this information from but it is not correct. Encysted small redworm can lie dormant in the gut mucosa and in the muscles for up to two years and can emerge at any time causing huge damage to the gut. At the very least you should be worming for encysted small redworm(which will not show up on a worm count, nor incidentally will tapeworm)twice yearly and more frequently if you have heavily grazed pasture. We have used Equest and Equest plus on arabs since it first came on the market and have never had any problems - however you should not use it straight away on a horse carrying a heavy worm burden or of uncertain worming history. Because it is stored in the muscle/body fat, it should not be used on horses in poor condition either, but it is released slowly and continues to kill worms for up to 14 weeks.

Why is Equest dangerous to use on Arabs and not other breeds????
Bit worried by this as I always use Equest or Equest Pramox on my Arabs never had any problems though.

We got a huge lot from Australia a few years back, all Equest and think it worked out at about £3.75 per wormer....however after consulting our nutritionist, she strongly advised against using them for arabs.
Luckily my mother and I are employed part time by the local feedstore (cleaning their offices at 4am!!)- so we get discount on our wormers now - not bad!

Just received my wormers from Mile End this morning. Great service!!
honey Posted - 16 Apr 2010 : 7:10:34 PM
jude i heard equest is dangerous for arabs,as the equest is stored in the muscles hench why it lasts so long, this is why i won't use it often about once a year. i use the noromectine and worm every 6 weeks, and if they show worms they get wormed five days later, as the encysted worms hatch around five days, But i have seen with the noromectine dead red worms appearing upto a week after they have been wormed(heavy burdens) only one or two here and there but shows it must be effective up to a week after being wormed.

Adele, it's the same product but each country has it's own conditions for the product to meet to gain it's licence.
The data provided must have not shown sufficient trials/safety/efficacy in horses under 6mths to be approved for use in them in the UK.

HiThere is a better way.........Food Grade Diatemacious Earth. I now have 2 years of O, yes that is zero parasite counts for my horses. The powder is added to grain and parasites are killed mechanically (therefore they cannot develop resistance). The exoskeleton is scratched by tiny silica and they de-hydrate. However it is harmless to mammals as they have a mucuous lining in their stomachs that protects them. It also reduces the fly population, dramatically, in the same manner. Best of all a 50 lb bag lasts me about 90 days for 10 or so horses and it only costs $27 USD. My vet was skeptical, she runs a racing barn and has now put her client horses on it! It is also natural, rather than chemical poison!!!!!!!!!!!!

I started a thread on another forum as I ship my wormers from the US with a friend....unbelieveably cheap over there - we are ripped off over here !! Anyway someone suggested using DE . There is a supplier in the UK (more expensive obviously !!) http://diaomx.co.uk. I liked the mention that it stops them chewing wood !!!!!!!!!!!!
Jude Posted - 15 Apr 2010 : 10:53:24 PM
I was very interested to see that Equest plus is available from discount vet supplies as I was under the impression that it was not licenced for use in this country, unlike Pramox, which is the same thing for use in the UK. For the last six years or so I have been getting my Equest plus from Equine Megastore in Australia and have not yet had any stopped by customs.

Honey - Equest is just what you should be worming with if you have a heavy redworm problem as it is the only wormer that effectively kills encysted small redworm (Panacur 5 day guard is useless - there is far too much resistance to it)

Maybe I will give discount vet supplies a try next time as it would appear to be even cheaper than getting them from Oz.
honey Posted - 15 Apr 2010 : 9:03:29 PM
yeah depends on what your looking for we got noromectine from vet uk for 4.16 a wormer with free delivery, its great for an in between wormer, kills red worms, like many cheap wormers dont. We have badly contaminated fields from previous owners of the land. So we have to worm them constantly for red worm, and dont like worming them with equest alot as its quite a strong wormer.
Cryapakah Posted - 15 Apr 2010 : 8:31:36 PM
We get ours from Vetpharmacy can't go wrong when you get the strongidP equivalent for £5.80 per syringe! Helps that my Mom works for the main company though!
