Posted - 15 Feb 2010 : 12:57:07 PM Hi everyone, Rafael is a good 15:3hh at the moment and he is rising 5, he is very substantial in body too. Im sure he will make 16hh by the time he stops growing. His sire (Affirrmed) is 16hh and his dam Raffalynn SRA i think is about 15hh not sure. Obviously Rafa has followed his sire's line for height, grandsire is Magnum Psyche. - Georgina |

Posted - 14 Feb 2010 : 9:37:40 PM My advanced endurance gelding is a very wide 15hh. My new boy is full up 16hh with lots of bone but not as wide. Both purebreds. Have to admit to loving the bigger arabs - my big lad is soooo comfy to ride. |

Posted - 14 Feb 2010 : 8:28:40 PM My purebred SE is 15'3hh, my purebred high % Crabbet endurance horse is 15'1hh, his mum is 14'3hh. I also have an Anglo mare (75%) at 15'1hh and a TBX Andalusian at 16hh.
I've never ridden the 14'3hh mare (only because she was never backed, as her career was as a broodmare, and at the grand old age of 29 I think it's a bit too late to start). However, even though I'm 5'10 1/2 with long legs and about 10.5 stone in weight, I don't look or feel too big on any of mine.
On a different note. (Very tongue in cheek here!) I must strongly disagree with Barbara Gregory. Since when have Arabs produced less poo than other horses? Ooooh, if only that were true! :-)

Posted - 14 Feb 2010 : 10:46:58 AM Our No. 1 stallion (7) is 15.3, bordering on 16hh. His dam is 15.2hh, sire is 15hh.
Our 17 yr old gelding is 14.1 and when you ride him, he feels like a 16hh horse...they DO ride big and he doesn't look 'tiny' when he has a tall rider onboard.
Most of the rest of the herd are around 14.2/3 - 15.2hh.
2009 filly will probably make 15.2/3hh, as is constantly bum-high as a weanling and also has longer cannon bones than her dam (same dam as stallion, but different sire). |

Posted - 14 Feb 2010 : 10:19:18 AM As many others have said, they do ride big and are substantial enough to take up your leg. I am about the same height as you and if you look at my sig pics my feet aren't hanging down any further on 14.2hh Garnet than 16hh Red, both PBA. Garnet has also been hacked out by a very long-legged friend (ex Mounted Police, so used to BIG horses) and she never felt underhorsed on her. Smaller ones are easier to groom and rug, cheaper to feed etc, as has already been said. |

Posted - 13 Feb 2010 : 8:14:09 PM I have 2 boys, 1 Anglo, he's 15.1 and the other is trakehner x Arab and he's (at the moment) 16.1 and only just 5 and STILL growing. Arabs do tend to keep growing until they're about 7yrs, and as others have said do ride bigger than they are!!!! |

Posted - 13 Feb 2010 : 4:18:08 PM I have a 4 year old who bearly nudges 14.1, a 15 year old who is about 15.1, and a 2 year old who is about 14.3 (all purebreds). I also have a welsh section a who is only about 11hh, but actually a lot bigger than the lot of them (in her head and probably thiers too lol!). I get a bit intimidated by anything over about 15,1 these days! Ros

Posted - 13 Feb 2010 : 12:15:25 PM K is 15.1 but her baby (also by Crimbo) is enormous! I hate to think what he will end up as given that he is only 9 months old and 3/4 of her size when I last saw him 3 weeks ago. Reckon he'll end up about 18hh judging by the growing that's going on at the moment .

Posted - 08 Feb 2010 : 3:27:42 PM Pasha is full-up 15.2hh (no withers) and rides about 17hh when he's excited lol!
Shesky is 16hh, but has proper withers and doesn't feel big at all, but then I had been used to riding 16.2hh + horses when I got him so think it must be that - everyone comments on how huuge he is, but to me he is a little cuddly pony x |

Posted - 07 Feb 2010 : 5:23:59 PM May old lady is 14.3hh and my boy is 15hh. They both give a super ride bigger than their size. As for weight I have to admit I was 14st briefly and she was fine but 10st plus my saddle is where I am now. |

Posted - 07 Feb 2010 : 07:01:51 AM Lily is 15.2hh, although I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to find that she has grown a little taller over the winter(she's not 5 until June). However I think you should go for whatever horse you fall in love with, whether it be arab, partbred or something completely different. It's just that I have been under the spell of arabs since I was a child, and it seems to be incurable. I have had and loved non arabs, but given the opportunity to buy exactly what I wanted I knew this one had to be an arab. I thought I wanted a chestnut or bay gelding, but it turned out I fell in love with a grey mare! |
