Posted - 04 Jan 2010 : 10:48:49 PM Hello sweetie, glad you got here at last!
Arm completely up the creek given that I was supposed to be resting it for a fortnight but with everything that's gone on in the last few days that's gone to pot!
K and S are good thank you. They seemed to have settled down well and I'm surprised at her as thought she would be worried about lack of adult horses but she seems more than happy with her little man (or not so little, he seems to have grown huge since Christmas ! They are in a stable together which is quite cosy but fine for the moment, they are safe and that's the important thing.
The forecast is dreadful for the rest of the week so I don't think that any of us will be moving anywhere in any hurry !
Hope that your arm is ok, we do rather need them with all this manual stuff we do!
Jen xx

Posted - 03 Jan 2010 : 9:37:24 PM Horrible isn't it, I really feel for you all going through this awful fearful time whether it means anything or not I don't know but it has certainly put the wind up an awful lot of people.
It was a plait ~ 100% sure. Three people looked at it with probably the best part of 80 years experience between us and it wasn't one of those windblown things that she's had plenty of too, it was a plait. For two days afterwards you could see the kinks like a crimper ~ I plaited my hair for years when I was younger and I it was exactly the same as an undone tight symetrical plait. Ok maybe I may have over-reacted but I wasn't going to take any chances with my horses.
I'll post some pictures in a minute of them this morning !

Posted - 03 Jan 2010 : 2:26:33 PM Just read this, glad all ok! I am in Chesham area and my yard owner has been refencing fields, installing locks on everything, all entrances to yard fields etc as she was sure we were being targeted. I thought she may have been going over the top, but now glad she went to all the trouble. Hope they have settled in their new temp home. |

Posted - 03 Jan 2010 : 12:50:58 PM These wind blown plaits DO look very much like someone has plaited it,all the hair crossed over each other. Mine have had them for over 30 years and never stolen. They are more to the bottom of the mane than at the crest and are a B****R to get out! Sometimes I have had to snip a small piece of hair to get them undone. Try not to worry ,I'm sure thats all it is.
Just noticed that you have padlocked your stable door, don't mean to be a scaremonger but I would never padlock a horse in a stable in case of fire. Small risk I know but worries me more than the plait! |

Posted - 02 Jan 2010 : 6:45:06 PM Print yourself several BIG signs (largest possible print on A4 paper), get them laminated (local stationer should be able to help here) saying your horses are freezemarked & microchipped and put them up around the place. Our Farmkey sign was too tatty to survive another move so that is what we did!

Posted - 02 Jan 2010 : 6:17:59 PM Well they are safely in their temporary home and I can now breathe a sigh of relief and have a glass or two of wine.
K was a good girl as ever to load and little chap followed without too much trouble. Not exactly the ideal first loading lesson ~ in the near dark, with a panicked owner on the end of the lead but in he went bless him!
So now to research all the security measures that are possible and hope that whoever it was never darkens our door again.
Thank you so much to all the lovely aliners who have rung me offering transport and stables over the last 24 hours ~ wonderful people as ever, thank you!
Jen xx

Posted - 02 Jan 2010 : 2:25:37 PM Thank you again. Yes land with your own stables is the answer I'm sure.
I've just popped in quickly and now off out to move them to their temporary home. It's all so surreal and I can't really believe that I didn't even know anything 24 hours ago. My lovely YO is very upset and worried about her own horses obviously and she is being so good to me bless her.
I've left the children somewhere, need to retrieve them too!

Posted - 02 Jan 2010 : 1:45:40 PM so pleased all is ok this morning. after we had an 'incident' in August we are terrified, and paranoid about security. We have marked ALL the horses rugs with their freeze mark numbers & put signs up on all gates/stables to say ALL horses are micro-chipped & freeze marked. Even though our stables & land are within 5 minutes from home our house is now on the market as we are determined to get a property with the horses outside. Hope all goes well for you. |

Posted - 02 Jan 2010 : 10:45:53 AM You so lucky you have somewhere to move them to... much less hassel for you! We have had no reports lately so bit more relaxed! Better to be paranoid and still have my boy tho!!! Just glad i didnt have to sleep at stables like some poor buggers were doing. Good luck |

Posted - 02 Jan 2010 : 10:05:02 AM Really? How scary and so time consuming for you!
I've got transport arranged for tomorrow morning if my lovely YO is too exhausted to help me out today so that's good.
We're going to sort out some signs for the gates on Monday etc and see what else can be done. I can think a lot more clearly if they are somewhere else for the time being.

Posted - 02 Jan 2010 : 09:52:54 AM Hope all ok, I'm in Bellingdon, Bucks ans we have had lots of problems with this just recently! We are lucky our horses are at the house but my bedroom overlokks the lane which had other horses in the fields, I became a peeping tom was so scared. Amazing that we live in a lane that goes nowhere, but all off a sudden strange cars appearing! I went out to 2 on my own, 1 disappeared, the other was a very embarrassed couple who certainly got more than they bargained for having me a 4'11 banging on their car window! Have to say the police were brilliant, came up and drove around the times we had to call them. we also got friendly with our local police woman, who has horses so much more sympathetic... she definately seemed to be around and about more, also dropped in to see us a few times, gave us details to join local details to email...so a lot of people ended up working together, as soon as anything happened the info was shared. I parked my car in front of neighbours field gates, and the routines were changed, staying at yard longer etc. Best of luck, its so scarey, know how you feel. also try to chill though as it wont do you any good... easy to say i know x |

Posted - 02 Jan 2010 : 09:40:37 AM They are ok this morning thank god.
Just off to clear the stable out at friend's place and try and arrange transport. At least if they are there I can think rationally about what to do next. I so want to stay where I am, perhaps we can juggle fields or something so that mine not so close to road etc.
Poor lady who owns the yard, so horrible for her knowing that someone has been on her land even if it is just a prank or pagan thing.
