Posted - 30 Jun 2009 : 3:47:37 PM I just want to take on the discussion about ridden Arabs on a bit from Sue's C Show thread to say how strong competition is among Arab geldings now.
There were always more geldings than mares and stallions in ridden classes, but the proportion of entries are drawing wider apart from year to year. At the Midland Arabian Festival on Sunday there were 25 geldings competing for one HOYS place - twice as many as mares and stallions entered.
The quality was fantastic, the production great and it was a tough task for the judge. To get a gelding to HOYS now means you have to have a really superb specimen, excellently produced and the standards are better than they've ever been.
Hats off to the geldings and their owners/riders!

Posted - 18 Jul 2009 : 11:16:45 PM Ah, well, I do have a confession to make Roseanne, I am technically derelict! DO NOT KNOW HOW TO GET PICCY@S ON YET!!!! But, if you havent seen already, see The lovely Al Emeer post!!!! But he is only a baby, hasnt really done anything yet! Oh, but I do love him, never ever thought I would find another so lovely after losing my horse of a life time Gizzy. The most wonderful gelding (oh dear, eyes welling again)no photos on comp, in fact not many at all, even though I promised to myself I would take at least yearly photo's. Think of him every day. He was so loved and admired by everyone that met him, people didnt believe he was an Arab because of his kind, calm personality, well that and because he was so huge, very well built. Why is there such prejidice? It has been 7 months, and I still think about him every day, sometimes smiling, through tears and even laughing, he was such a character. When I mucked out he used to ever so gently, grab hold of, my very! tight jods and pull them as far out as poss, then let go! He knew how to get a laugh, bless his soul. Oh I do miss hom so |

Posted - 18 Jul 2009 : 1:52:27 PM This has been a lovely topic to follow. Some lovely geldings. Jenny, Azlal looks fab, I'll always remember him as a stallion and the wide berth you had to give him as you went past his box, but he's still a lovely boy, proves what an all-rounder our Arabian horses are |

Posted - 18 Jul 2009 : 1:31:31 PM There are some seriously lovely geldings around! I can't believe Azlal is 23! Damascus is a real showman, and Rafael looks a fabulous horse to ride (and show!).
Vera is that expression 'just what do you think you're doing fiddling around my nether regions - how very, very rude!' or is it 'just scratch harder will you?'

Posted - 15 Jul 2009 : 09:38:04 AM All lovely pix but I am especially pleased to see Visaj, as I knew him as a tiny foal when he came here with his mum to be covered ( see result as the fab SSinsation) I remember when he came off the box , he just blew my mind , what an exotic beauty he was , and now to see him leading such a useful life makes my heart sing edited to correct awful spelling |

Posted - 15 Jul 2009 : 09:14:34 AM My daughter just returned from the US and was amazed at the quality of geldings being shown... most would make superb stallions! I think more should be made of gelding classes in the UK both in-hand and ridden....
I sold one of my boys Vizahj ( Zircon Nazeer x Sabaara) who was gelded at 8yrs old after leading a successful in-hand career as a stallion... but just did not seem to enjoy the showing scene!
Vizahj as a 3yr old colt at Malvern
We had him gelded and he is now leading a fabulous life with his new owner Molly Quinn who is only 14! He attends pony camp where at first he was frowned upon for being an arab but afterwards I heard nothing but great things about him, he's even converted a few non-arab people!
