Posted - 07 Dec 2010 : 7:37:50 PM Just a bit more info on Blitz,I'm pretty sure that I read that Lord Wm Beresford brought him to England to stand on stud duties..butthat was cut short when Lord Beresford was taken ill and died, leaving the horse up for sale. Thats when he was snapped up and went back to India.
Leaving you the link to one of Mrs Inge's ponies, which has both SAHARA on the bottom line and CAIRO/CROSBY on the top..with almost 10 years between them.

Posted - 07 Dec 2010 : 4:16:48 PM hi folks,No question about Blitz's colour, as noted 'He is milk white with a black muzzle. Pelle, you need to check your notes..its not a Bay..
Also I think the DOLLY GREY is 1736 NPS, 14.2h & Grey ( and also the dam of SEPTIMUS 1644 -Stalion b.1918).
Cheers Sue

Posted - 07 Dec 2010 : 12:19:26 AM Found a bit more about Blitz...
"...[he] was certainly one of the greatest stake winners for his inches that the world has ever seen. Bought originally by Lieut. O'Farrell of the 6th Dragoons for R400 he never was beaten. After winning the Civil Service Cup for the second time, his owner and partners bought him in no less than 14 pools, whose actual aggregate value was $60,000. Later, he was bought by Lord William Beresford, and used in stud in England to a limited degree. Afterward he passed into the possession of the Maharajah of Patiala, who took him back to India and used him for breeding. He is described by one who knew him well, in these words: "He is for his size, the most remarkable animal ever foaled. He is milk white with black muzzle which can be put in a pint pot. Weight makes no difference to him"
So I don't think he is the Blitz referred to by Pelle, since that was a bay...

Posted - 28 Dec 2009 : 12:27:08 PM Just a little more info from Peter Upton's book. "Crosbie Grey 1908. Imported in 1915. Registered with NPS Vol 14 & AHS Vol 1. Bred by an Arab in Syria amd brought to Cairo. Won races 1913-1914. 14,2h.h."
Note at bottom of page after all imported horses listed: "Other stallions such as Sultan; Beduin; Kouuch; Akbar; Vonolel; Ackbar; Marzouk; Yildiz; Posta and Chandi; were used at stud for the breeding of Pure Arabs, but their lines have since died out".
Sue, this book is very worth while putting on your birthday list!

Posted - 27 Dec 2009 : 12:33:20 PM Thank You so far folks...Just adding a few more off springs for Crosbie, He was also the sire of thge resident stallion at Chirk Castle, GREY CROSS 1921, and was used to cover many of the Chirk's Welsh ponies and of course there Polo Ponies.
Also,The mare NPS 6555 DUNDUCKET 1929 & PBAR vol.III was also by Crosbie, out of NPS 2508 GRIZELDA II. Dunducket was recorded as a blue grey, and won prizes in 1934 & 1935 at the London Spring Shows. She bred Nantucket in 1936 (by Shireherb (TB).and changed hands from her privious owner Misses Calmady-Hamly & Dawson and went to live with Mrs Oscar J Munz in Devon.
Thank you all for your help. Lynda, I think its a 'U' in Dunducket.
Bia, I need some more of your help. Is there a Palestine stud book, with things recorded from the 1920's, can you tell me, and that were at The Government Stud/Remount station, Acre, Palestine. Everdently there were Arabs there and some similar breeding to those that came/went to Blunts and to Crabbet, plus many others suitable for the remount job. Hope you all had a good Christmas, Sunny here but a little cold, All the Best for 2010. Cheers & Thanks in advance. Sue

Posted - 30 Nov 2009 : 7:52:32 PM Crosbie also sired alot of anglos and PBA, are you interested in those? When Crosbie was accepted in AHSB several people objected, as some people regarded Crosbie as a arabXbarb stallion and not a purebred.
