Laughing out loud Heather

Sally perhaps try him with his ball in spring, those three looked like they were being territorial with the ball, because they were certainly displaying
sab2 Posted - 27 Dec 2011 : 4:25:19 PM
Zan thats fantastic, i must have a boring turkey as he hasn,t touched the ball since i put it in, i don,t think he is fully recovered from his flu, the vet says they can do nothing for him, he has antibiotics when i think he needs them but the only way to find out whats wrong is to kill him and test them fresh, i could never do that to him , Mrs Matthews has not had flu so shes as bright as a button she is in disgrace as she keeps following the chickens up the woods and over the bridge back down the other side but then dose not follow them back so i have to go into the bushes and brambles every night trying to get her back, OH helped last night and came out of the rhodys with no hat and had fallen over twice i tried not to laugh but couldn,t hwlp myself.

Must try to find photos of Beau playing football, meantime, here are some more fitba crazy turkeys. It seems Beau was not unique in enjoying a game

sab2 Posted - 18 Dec 2011 : 5:23:05 PM
Mine were both rescued from the turkey farm in Norfolk, poor Bernard was so overweight he could hardly walk, they rear all year round so you may be able to rescue one in a few of months time
LYNDILOU Posted - 17 Dec 2011 : 9:18:24 PM
Never mind Sally, I dont want one already rescued I wanted to save one ( or two) from being slaughtered this christmas I was just too late ! why didnt I think of it before
sab2 Posted - 17 Dec 2011 : 4:48:42 PM
Awww thats a shame, after i had posted today i remember reading that they like to hang them for 10days after killing them . I know the hens don,t lay too many eggs so they seem to hang on to the breeding stock, such a shame but i am sure one will come along when you least expect it its a shame you were not so far away and maybe i could of tried to find one up here for you.
LYNDILOU Posted - 17 Dec 2011 : 4:23:14 PM
sadly Sally I am too late , I went to 3 turkey farms in our area and all the turkey have already been killed , not one left one farmer said he wouldnt sell them alive anyway ??? why I wonder and another said he only had breeding stock left and wouldnt sell any of those so we came home with our cage empty and I had made up my mind to get two ! oh well I will look out for a rescue one or two.
sab2 Posted - 17 Dec 2011 : 2:13:41 PM
Thats great Lynda they are great to have around, i am sure he/she will live happily with the chickens, Bernard did before Mrs Matthews arrived, just make sure if it is a hatch door its big enough for the turkey or you may find it wedged in the hole. I am trying to see if we can get another one as i would rather have a live one for lunch than one on my plate

Pat you will have to act all surprised when you open the camera i am looking forward to your photos, never tire of seeing peoples pictures.
LYNDILOU Posted - 17 Dec 2011 : 11:27:47 AM
Sally, I have decided to Buy a turkey for christmas and I am going to look today, hopefully it will live with my chickens ? but if not it can wander the stables ( got the idea from Liz jones
pat day Posted - 17 Dec 2011 : 11:15:24 AM
Sally, My camera died a couple of months ago.

I think John has already bought me a new one for christmas because I keep saying I am going to get a new one, and he keeps putting me off.

Will take some of the peafowl in the snow when I have said camera, and it next snows......
sab2 Posted - 16 Dec 2011 : 9:11:41 PM
Thanks Pat, looks like i am going to be very busy tomorrow my chickens and Mrs Matthews do not seem to mind the snow on their feet but poor Bernard is a fair weather turkey
pat day Posted - 16 Dec 2011 : 7:31:47 PM
Sally, none of my birds like getting cold feet, so I tend to use the snow shovel to make them little paths around their paddock, the yard and gardens.
It works for us here.

Kharidian Posted - 16 Dec 2011 : 5:47:47 PM
Perhaps Bernard needs turkey-wellies for Christmas?

Caryn
sab2 Posted - 16 Dec 2011 : 5:18:36 PM
Bernard was not a happy turkey today, he dose not do snow, Mrs Matthews was happily playing in the woods with the chickens hiding under a tree and poor Bernard was so upset at being left home alone lets hope it melts soon so he can come out and play again.

They had a visitor this morning, my foalie who is 8wks old
They have their mealworm muffins to open from santa
Zan Posted - 13 Dec 2011 : 12:07:39 PM
He's gorgeous . I think maybe Beau was copyng my dogs originally. The dogs were very good with him--when he realised Beau liked the ball Harry( who was part GSD/ part something else/part clown) would go and get it and roll it towards him with his nose.
Offira Posted - 13 Dec 2011 : 12:01:49 PM
Ooooo I say, how mightily handsome he is - and those lovely bronze feathers.

I'm not sure he should have opened his present before Christmas though
sab2 Posted - 13 Dec 2011 : 11:55:05 AM

I gave him the ball this morning but i don,t think he is very impressed with it
Offira Posted - 13 Dec 2011 : 10:26:16 AM
My chickens loved mealworms.

We also had a robin who cottoned on and had his own dish of them as well .

When I ran out I used dried ones instead, chickens were fine about it but Robin was most put out. He just looked at his bowl and then stared at me as if to say "dried?"
sab2 Posted - 12 Dec 2011 : 9:10:11 PM
Zan i had never thought about a football, i have one in the house i got for the dogs and they don,t play with it, i shall give them it tomorrow , let you know what happens
