Any computer experts here please?

I have the AVG anti virus, & a box keeps popping up while I'm working saying 'Resident shield alert' threat detected.
I try & move it into the virus vault, but when I look in the vault it hasn't gone in there?
Any ideas?
My avg is up to date & I've also run the scan this aft to scan the computer.

I've pmed you a link to a boot cd. Seems it may help and I hope it does.

I've completely crashed now!!!
On Bertie Bagwash's laptop.

Have replied to your pm. If it can't be handled in any other way, it may be needed to create a safe boot CD and boot from it. I have a couple links for free boot cds that will scan your system, so let me know if it comes to that.

Sent you a reply pm.
Forgot to mention I did a full scan. Took about 50 minutes. The first scan aborted as the whole system shut down but got the 2nd scan through to the end.
will let you know how I get on.
cheers.

Sent you a PM.
Rui Posted - 20 Jan 2010 : 6:12:25 PM
Did you run a full scan or a quick scan?
rosie Posted - 20 Jan 2010 : 6:05:14 PM
thanks for the link rui.
I've downloaded it & then done a scan.
It picked up 12 infected objects that the AVG & spybot didn't pick up but I'm still getting a 'threat detected' box popping up.
Ooh I hate computers when they don't do what you want them to do!!!
Thanks again for your help.

Cheers Rui
You don't have a link by any chance to it please?
Rui Posted - 20 Jan 2010 : 1:51:54 PM
Seems AVG is useless for that (no surprises there). Lisa, I suggest you download malwarebytes antimalware free version, install it, and then let it run and scan your system. It should find the virus and clean it.

Thanks for the advice.

Still can't get it sorted & I've run the scan & spybot again.
Comes up as: virus infected win32/cryptor.

Will have to keep working on it? Still not moving into the virus vault when it says it has?

Probably a search for the specific threat would provide more direct suggestions...
Arabian Girl Posted - 19 Jan 2010 : 11:12:21 PM
if u google " resident sheild alert" it will come up with lots of answers.....
Rui Posted - 19 Jan 2010 : 9:31:49 PM
Likely the threat has a name and you can find more about it and decide what to do after.
rosie Posted - 19 Jan 2010 : 9:10:34 PM
Once the threat shows up it shows me 3 suggestions:
'move to vault,
go to file,
or cancel.
Normally, I can move it to the vault, then empty the vault, but its not moving?
I suppose at least its picking the threat up?

Also, tried to 'cancel' or 'go to file' but nothing happening?
Will try another scan.
Also ran the spybot.

Never liked avg much and don't really know it. However it surely offers some sort of suggestion, no?

Have you taken notice of the threat it finds?

Rosie try letting the computer do as many scans as it like! My laptop had the same prob it soon sorted itself out.
