EMIRATES ARABIAN INTERNATIONAL STAKES (GROUP 2)
Newbury, August 1st 2004

CS
AL WAHED
Owner: Mr M D Brunton, Trainer, Mr A J Brunton,
Jockey, Mr Pierre Deymonaz.
RACE DETAILS:
Winner: - CS AL WAHED,
Owner: Mr M D Brunton, Trainer, Mr A J Brunton, Jockey, Mr Pierre
Deymonaz.
This race was a tactical success for CS AL WAHED who
burst out of the stalls and soon established a twenty lengths
lead from the other two runners, JUMA and NADJEL,
both trained by Mrs G M Duffield. JUMA was
the short priced favourite to win the race after finishing second
in the Dubai Stakes on his latest run. Pierre Deymonaz, riding
CS AL WAHED looked as if his front running
tactics would lead to his defeat three furlongs out, but the
effort made by JUMA to reduce his long lead took its toll and
entering the final furlong both horses had reached their limits.
CS AL WAHED had given his all but had enough
left to hold off the persistent challenge of JUMA,
with NADJEL (FR) back in third.
A great success for the Brunton family who recorded their first
GROUP RACE WIN on Dubai Day but did not have so long to wait
to add this Group 2 victory to their ever increasing score sheet.
A race for Purebred Arabians over 3,200 m (two miles).
A down side to the race was that Richard Hills on NADJEL (FR)
and Pierre Deymonaz on the Winner CS AL WAHED both received
suspensions for excessive use of the whip..
