Track: Polytrack
The
Al – Attiya Group Maiden Stakes - 7 Furlongs:
1. CS Patriarch Mr D Turner
2. Maksun Angel Mr S Walker
3. Sodidi Mr S Holdsworth
Distances: 1 ½, 2 12 ran Time: 01:40:70
Winner Owned and bred by Mr. M D Brunton. Trained by
Mr. A J Brunton.
In the opening maiden CS Patriarch (Makzan X Pokrovka) was always
traveling well and took up the lead a furlong out to quicken up
nicely to win comfortably from the Derby bound Maksun Angel (Makzan
X Island Sunrise). The second made a promising debut but ran a
bit green but knuckled down to his job in the final two furlongs
but didn’t have the same turn of foot as the winner. Sodidi
(Tidjani X Soumeira) was prominent throughout and was nearest
at the finish.
The Seco Architects Handicap Stakes (0-55) 1 Mile:
1. Bibi Royale Mr Y Mehmet
2. Jana Mr S Holdsworth
3. French Cracker Mr D Turner
Distances: ½, 5 14 ran Time: 02:34:00
Winner Owned by Mr. Y T Mehmet. Trained by Miss. D Crothers.
Bred by Mr. & Mrs. J D Kippen.
Bibi Royale (Abitibi X Chaldensford Royal Independence) returned
to form with a vengeance over this one mile two furlong trip,
he outstayed his rivals with a smart turn of foot and full credit
to Debbie Crothers for rejuvenating this old rogue. Jana (Normativ
X Joli) was a running on second over a trip that looked to stretch
her stamina, her attitude continues to impress she will be interesting
if dropped back to a mile. French Cracker (Frere Des Loups X Sihrea
Crystal) is slowly getting to grips with racing and ran on strongly
from the chasing pack.
The Arabian International Horse Festival Stakes (Group
3) 1 Mile 4 Furlongs:
1. Have Fun W Supple
2. Fripon Al Maury Mr S Walker
3. Juma M Batchelor
Distances: 9, 11 7 ran Time: 02:51:00
Winner Owned by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin R Al Maktoum. Trained by
Mrs. G Duffield. Bred by Chantilly Bloodstock.
The Group 3 over one mile four furlongs proved to be a true staying
race as CS Al Wahed set a decent pace from the start. However,
Have Fun was always traveling a little too well behind and ranged
upsides Fripon Al Maury two furlongs out and then quickened clear
with a decent turn of foot to win impressively. This run will
have put him spot on for the Dubai Stakes which he was second
in last year. Fripon Al Maury ran a gallant race in defeat, but
was never going to catch Have Fun inside the final furlong. Juma
was struggling to go the pace in the early stages but soon picked
up momentum as his stamina kicked in, he ran on well in the final
furlong.
The Etihad Airways Stakes (Group 3) 6 Furlongs:
1. Djeldor De Bozouls W Supple
2. Djoumis De Leyre M Batchelor
3. Shahngali Mr P Deymonaz
Distances: 3 ½, 6 10 ran Time: 01:21:40
Winner Owned by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin R Al Maktoum. Trained by
Mrs. G Duffield. Bred by E.A.R.L. Mezagri Argicole.
The Group 3 over six furlongs was won by last years winner Djeldor
De Bozouls (Dormane X Udjella) who blitzed clear of his rivals
in final furlong to win going away. He remains a classy sprinter
and it is unlikely he’ll be denied a second Zaabeel Stakes
in July. Djoumis De Leyre (Tidjani X Zina De Perron) lacks nothing
in ability and gave the winner the most to do in the final two
furlongs, he couldn’t match the pace in the final furlong
but was clear of the rest. Shahngali (Bengali D’Albret X
Affecshahn) was slowly into stride out of the stalls and did well
to make up the ground, he was finishing stronger than the rest
of the field and did well to get third.
The
Al Waha Premier Handicap Stakes (0-85) 7 Furlongs:
1. Wayward Faery Charlotte
Kerton
2. Balquees Mr
S Walker
3. CS Camellia Mr P Deymonaz
Distances:
3 ½, 2 ½ 14 ran Time: 01:39:10
Winner
Owned by Wayward Racing. Trained by Mr. R K Baily. Bred by Mrs.
S Boorman.
The
most competitive race of the day was the seven furlong handicap.
Wayward Faery (Kesberoy X Faery Wand) has always run as though
this trip was her optimum, she was well placed throughout the
race and brought to lead three furlongs out by her talented jockey
Charlote Kerton who went for home from the final bend and pushed
this gallant mare out to win by a comfortable margin from the
hard pressed Balquees (Passem Lotois X Victorias Secrett). The
second has plenty of attitude and ability, she helped force the
pace and quickened well but was always playing second fiddle to
the winner. CS Camellia (Bengali D’Albret X Ciarosa) was
handy throughout but seemed to struggle when the front two quickened,
she was kept up to her work to finish third and step up in trip
will see to her best advantage.
The
Voltag Engineering Handicap Stakes (Anglo & PBA) 1 Mile 2
Furlongs:
1. L’Escalou Mr
S Walker
2. Call Me Risky Miss G Kelleway
3. Ardente Sauvage Mr S Holdsworth
Distances:
3 ½, 1 6 ran Time: 02:17:80
Winner Owned by Mr. D Brunton. Trained by Mr. W Smith.
Bred by Mme M Gaillard.
The
Anglo race proved to be decent contest. L’Escalou (Big John
X L’Escale) looked impressive as he took up the initiative
with Call Me Risky in the final three furlongs and was kept up
to his work to score in a workmanlike fashion from Call Me Risky
(Risk Me X Call My Name). The second ran well on his debut for
his new yard, he was always held by the winner but impressed with
his attitude and looks to be returning to form. Ardente Sauvage
(Feu Ardent X L’Eau Sauvage) made too much use of herself
in the early stages and was a shade disappointing when fading
into third.
The
SAJ Investments Stakes (International – 3 yrs only) 6 Furlongs:
1. Samern Mr P Deymonaz
2. Hellow Mr S Walker
3. Outta Limit Mr S Holdsworth
Distances:
neck, 3 3 ran Time: 01:30:00
Winner
Owned by Miss. S G Kelleway. Trained by Mr. R Sedgely. Bred by
Mr. R J Hutchings.
The
SAJ Investments Stakes was the first three year old race of the
season and what it lacked in numbers it made up for in pedigree.
Outta Limit (Djebbel X Elite Star Ku) running in Sheikh Mohammed’s
colours led the field until two furlongs out when the labouring
Hellow (Kesberoy X Hafia De Faust) took up the running with the
burly looking Samern ominously stalking. Samern (Amer X Northfield)
ran on in the final furlong to win a shade cosily and gave Rob
Sedgley his first winner as a trainer.
