I think there have been rumblings about these people for some time, I don't know them myself but have definitely read about them previously, can't remember if it was on here or FB but there were some heated arguments from their defenders. Guess they were misguided to say the least! |

joanna_piana, I got abuse from people re the peels when I mentioned that things may not be OK there as I heard a rumour so couldn't broadcast it as I had just suspicions many, many years ago so there are always people who are taken in by them.
I don't know the people either but why do they not ask for help? It is sad for the horses but at least there isn't the enormous number of horses who have suffered at the hands of the peel family for years. |

My friend volunteers for Bransby and she says the mares are thriving. She wanted me to foster one but I am on livery and there aren't any spaces. I suppose they have been 'lucky' to have been found and are now safe. |

What is it with these people, they were continually offered homes but obviously greed and ego stood in the way and they suffered, ultimately with the death of some..... |

The 4 mares at Bransby are doing well but only 2 will be eventually re-homed. Bransby are keeping two as they need medication for the rest of their lives so will stay at Bransby to be monitored. They do want very experienced 'Arab people' for the other 2. |

Obviously it should be a ban for life, that poor baby on the floor. Yet certain other people surrounded by dead and suffering horses are still keeping them. |

Personally (and this will probably have you all screaming from the rafters) but the answer starts with stopping eating them. The very fact we kill and eat them shows our disregard for the animal kingdom from people in all walks of life from breeders to court of law judges.

The pictures of Emerald are truly shocking. What kind of person does this? Ignorance canīt be blamed as this piece of scum owner moved in high level showing circles it would seem. A trophy-hunting piece of sh*t is what springs to my mind. |

Unfortunately people think just because people are well known or meant to be high profile in showing or breeders that it doesn't happen, it does and I think if horses are bred on a big scale lots are not up to standard and are not going to make huge money they become surplus to requirement. I really don't think it makes any difference people in all walks of life abuse or mistreat animals and it can be for all sorts of reasons. Quite often the horses have there day in the show ring or breeding and then they become something that is costing and then they end up neglected in fields .
I honestly believe studs/ showing and livery yards and anywhere horses livestock are kept should be checked on regular basis as we are hearing more and more of these horrific cases of abuse. Life bans and and imprisonment for people who abuse. Often people know things they have heard about studs/riders and so on. If people thought that they were going to get named shamed and banned it really would make a difference.

Nantaz, I am not sure it would. As you say, the horses become yesterday's news and the new superstar is looked after and the old one forgotten and left to rot in a field or shut up in a barn. Anyone who does that is not an animal lover. My old mares are my treasures; such beautiful old ladies. They have given one or two foals over the years as I don't breed a lot and they have earned their keep and are much loved.
There should be a mandatory life ban for extreme cases and a prison sentence. I would exclude the very occasional owner who through dementia or other illness doesn't realise what is happening but then would hope that people would see what was going on and help. |
