So while Freya has been at the vets, it's been irritating me.
When we got there, I had to go down to reception and book us in, hand over passport and insurance and answer some questions [what quirks does she have that the staff should be aware of etc]
The nice receptionist lady had one of the nursing staff come out and meet us, but there were three other ponies being unloaded at the same time as Freya, so to uncomplicated things, the receptionist said, "well the horses coming in just now are all different colours, so Tristan, you're collecting the liver chestnut"
Off I went to get her and lead her down to meet Tristan, who was to show us to the Scan/X-ray stable yard

He was stood by some windows, and as I came over, he want over to the other small horse being led down - a darkish chestnut, but no way a liver.
He called out 'Freya', so obviously, I answered.

He looked puzzled, and said "I was told to meet the liver, yours is bay"

LOL

Okay. I've done my reading, and learning, and even though she is not DNA tested, I know she is Liver C
Anyway, he took us down and we put her in, had a little chat with him and the other nurses who would be caring for Freya during her stay, and then we were told to go to the waiting are for the vet to come find us.

In the mean time, Tristan must have skipped off back to the receptionist.

When the vet came out, he had our paperwork out, and immediately asked what colour she was [lol again] Liver Chestnut. She is Liver blooming Chestnut

I was told, rather politely, but in a patronising fashion, that bays have dark points, did I see that Freya has dark points?

Who else has had this?
I know she is genetically red, what with having two red parents, and red is red is red, no matter how dark she looks... Plus it's winter, her legs don't have dark points, particularly on her non sock leg, and her mane and tail, although dark, look red in the sun.

This is Newmarket. You'd think they'd know what they're looking at!

Saying that, we have Splash [cob] and no one knows what colour to call her. Me and mum have always said Liver, because that's what she looks like, but her mane is a strange silver colour, no black points, although very dark, and almost mealy flanks in the summer.
Smoky black with silver is the only other possibility, with a W spotting gene.

Eurgh.

Had to get it off my chest, it's been driving me batty

We have a chestnut who is so dark she looks almost black and she is only described as chestnut on her papers. We also have a chestnut who is really a chestnut roan but when she was registered they thought she would go grey, she didn't but her papers say she is!! When we took the latter to Beaufort Clinic they took her picture, noted her markings against her passport, measured her, weighed her and still managed to spell her name incorrectly, they did put it right though.

Definitely a liver Debs!
Goldenmane, she also had 3 different tags on, one in her tail, one in her mane and one on her headcollar, and then she stable had her little description hanging on the door too. Which I had to write her quirks in the stable on. So I did write 'Liver Chestnut, don't tie up, don't try and put hose on her. Like neck scratches'
Think they got the message!

Ziadomira, seriously! I love how vets seem to have no idea of how to spell simple names. I know it isn't much, but Freya is always spelt 'Fraya' which annoys me, as I don't think that's even a way to spell Freya

Passports are a pain. Splash's p.p. is completely accurate about everything, except she is passported as 'Brown'. Which she isn't lol
But as I said, no one can actually say what colour she is, so it's a good talking point at shows or when she has had to go to the vets at Cambridge previously. They're always stumped hahaha!!

Have to be fair to them her name is Veletta Pearl and they assumed it was Valetta as in the capital of Malta, it comes from her mother who had Velvet in her name
