Well apart from finding a sleeping body in the field shelter and the next day a neighbour spraying weedkiller at the bottom of our adjoining wall when horses in field (without telling me bar steward)....it's been ok! But definately not a week from hell. You have obviously held it all together and are very strong, so tell all later You will have lots of support here. |

Well, at least you have held it all together in the face of - who knows what? So, very well done, and major congratulations. Apart from the guilt of letting Exxie go, and the thrills/anxieties of getting K (and dealing with his EXTREMELY trying owner) I have struggled with the Byzantine bureaucracy that entangles children's social work, and felt like telling them (the bean counters) all to go elsewhere. But didn't. It pays for me and the four legged ones. So - glo - what happened? And how have you survived? And now what? |

I too have had a bad week so may be something contagous doing the rounds although your "week from hell" sounds a lot worse than my "bad week" glo! Still, weekend tomorrow and then a new week for a new start.
I did have a good week in some ways; I got a Sphynx cat last Saturday and she is so gorgeous; didn't tell my husband, just disappeared for several hours when I went and got her brought her home and kept my fingers crossed he would like her and he is smitten too so one very loved little girl. |

In May we brought a old farm just down the road from us, we are going to split the site and keep the land and building that backs on to our own land, so are in the proses of revamping the house. Because we're going to sell the farm house we need to make sure that we have building regs on the work we are doing. My husband had talked with them and we had started some of the work but was assured that all would be fine ( we have now found out the mister nice guy was leaving on Friday) well he came on Tuesday, I was totally unconcerned, well this cockey agrgressive rude building inspector arrived, I could tell as soon as he stepped out of his car things were going to be bad. We had asked him to inspected 2 thing, but said that because he had seen that we had done more like, new floor, lintel over fire place, new door openings, more bathrooms, that list goes on we are going to be fined, have to uncover work we are going to end up having to pay another £1800 or more, for the pleasure of having this little squirt picking fault with all our work.
My husband has tried to get him on our side with no joy, all our builders are upset as work has been done to current regs! He is just a nasty nasty man, that I want to poke his eyes out now.
The house is loads better that it was, the builders reckoned that it would have collapse in less that 2 years, but as far as the building inspector goes, that's ok.
Makes me mad.
We have had to get a independent building inspector to come out as we now believe that the nasty one is being vindictive and over the top, the thing is we have paid for him to look at our work, he should be on our side to help sort out problems and offer solutions. Not have a bad attitude. We have to offer a invitation for him to visit, so that makes him a guest, and as a guest he should behave like one. Well I sopose that's the council for you. There is loads more I could go on about but that gives you an idea, it's a good job I have been doseing up on Kalms for the last week or more to take the edge off, don't know how I didn't brake down and sob in a hole somewhere.

There's nothing worse than a b****y jobsworth from the Council. They are the same here, would rather see a place fall down than let someone renovate and keep it alive. Hope you manage to get it sorted, can only imagine how you feel x |

It's getting worse and worse, just had to rush our cat in to the vets as she was having a fit, and looking very ill and this morning my son has got a huge abscess on a tooth that was part knocked out as a 10 yo, that had fused to the bone so will have to go to hospital to get it sorted, so then he will have no front teeth.
Keeping up beat about it but feel like we have been though the mill,
My mare is going to have a foal any day so hoping all will be ok there. |

Well, seems I didn't have a bad week after all when I read what others have suffered last week!
Glo, is there anyone else at the council you could speak to? Ask some of the locals if they know of anyone reasonable you could have a quiet word with but being careful not to criticise "jobsworth" as if he is like that in the office they may be only too happy to hear of your dealings in a polite way. You have my sympathy, my trials were of a very minor nature compared to yours.
Hope the cat and your son are both getting on OK. I lost 2 front teeth in an accident at an early age (about 13 I think) and for years had two false teeth. Then in my late thirties I had a bridge which I have had replaced and I now have a problem with one of the teeth holding it and have to go in for root canal treatment and a pin to hold the bridge in place. To add to the pain my dentist told me that they no longer do bridges on the NHS so it will be anything up to £4K depending on what they find when they start digging in the tooth root!
It may be worth asking if your son can have a bridge on the NHS as it may depend on the area whether they finance it or not. |

He already has a bridge on the NHS as he is only 16 but they are now going to have to remove the tooth that the bridge is fixed to. I know how important looks are when you are that age, so we will make sure that he gets a good pair of front teeth, it may well be a blessing as his front teeth that he has now, maybe aren't the best he could have.
As to our cat, she had another fit last night at the vets, we are having tests to see if she has epilepsy and if she had that can be treated with pills each day. Not ready to think about the the other option as she is her old self when not fitting.
This week is going to be better, I feel better already even though things are tough at mo. |

Oh just to our build, we have taken down some of the work we had done in the attic, we were going to put a bedroom with a en-suite up there, but have now decided to just have a bedroom up there. So strange as it may sound I think it has worked out for the best as well, we still have to get through Tuesday our next visit, but with our own inspector coming before Jobsworth,we will then know if he is being overly picky, and have a fresh pair of eyes looking that is nonbiased. |

Heavens, Glo, you certainly have been going through a grisly time. Poor you. Council bureaucrats in full cry seem to gather their own momentum, which then loses all touch with reality. I'm pleased it is looking a bit "less bad" now. Keep chewing the Kalms and feeding Inspector Jobsworth tea and cake! (Put that chocolate Ex-Lax down, you bad cook . . .!) Poor catto and son, too. It's so difficult watching loved people/animals in distress, but you sound as if you are dealing with it all in calmness and efficiency. |

The inspection went better than expected, he arrived very early and my husband wasn't here, I think he did that so he would not have to face him!
I hope to pick the cat up tomorrow evening she has had loads of tests and the vet I has started her on epilepsy tablets.
My son is on antibiotics and is waiting to have his teeth sorted.
I on the other hand am not well, it's sort of my fault, I seem to have developed a wheat/ glutin alergy, this has been going on for about 4 to 5 weeks or that is when I put 2 and 2 together, if I have it it makes me feel sick and be sick, to day the only thing I can think that would make me feel this bad is I have some wheat free and glutin free bread( this is the first time I have tried it) and now I am ill again, unless there is some other grain I am alergick to. Just taken some pain killers in a hope to get some sleep, taken some Nytol as well. |

Could the stomach thing be stress-related? The degree of aggravation you have survived lately would certainly qualify you. I have a low tolerance to a range of foods, which becomes even lower when under pressure. I found gluten-free products tasted vile, so just don't eat foods containing gluten if the heat is on. Seems to work ok. May be worth a try. |

Your right they aren't the best, it may be stress related, on the good side my sister said I looked as if I had losted some weight. I wonder why! |

Every cloud has a silver lining, and all that! So, Madam Cat having pills and potions, son, ditto, Inspector Ferret mollified, you are becoming even more sylph-like. Sounds like you have created a triumph of positive outcomes from a dismal heap of gloom! In relation to food to keep you going without initiating a poorly digestion, I have found versions of cooked eggs (scrambled, poached, hard boiled, dry fried) are good: protein to keep you going, filling, cheap and quick. Hope all progresses more smoothly from now on. |
