If anybody knows of any Addisons dogs in the UK Manchester university are doing research into it to try to identify the genetic contributors to this disease. Its only a matter of a dna test and filling in a few question and returning the details, you can do the test yourself and is two sponge swabs to be placed under tongue for about 60sec no longer and sending them back to the uni, postage is even paid for by them. Percy did his this morning . now sticking a sponge swab under Percy,s tongue is easier said then done and there are two to do 2 mins apart, nearly lost my finger end as he was trying to chew the swab while i was holding it, got there in the end but hes not speaking to me now. They are hoping to eventually find a test they can do for breeding stock to help rule out Addisons in the breeds where its more common so a good cause if they can do it and will save Addisons carries passing it on hopefully. If anybody wants the details to apply for a kit pm me and i can pass on the e mail for you to apply

The world according to Percy is if it fits in his mouth you can eat it and if it dosn,t fit you can still eat it just takes more effort. Had to scrape the snow off car today with my sleve as guess what Percy had eaten the ice scrapper, then hes had a good chomp on the chair today. The worst thing hes ever eaten was the wall light, how he didn,t kill himself we will never know, still got just the wires hanging out of the wall as not got round to buying new light. Hes out of his sulk now bless him, love him to bits but boy hes very hard work. My OH lost him the other night on a walk, he managed to get his harness off again , we live on a moor so no lights , OH had torch and luckily Percy,s coat has reflective strips on so he shone torch while i ran through heather trying to grab him, got him in the end when he tried to jump a stone wall and failed. So my next question is dog harnesses and which do you use that will not come off ? |

Bless him, it's not easy to work out how he has got himself into his bed so anything is possible with Percy. I have a Puppia harness for Dex but he does get out of it fastened to his seat belt if I leave him in the car to nip into a shop, he then transfers whatever is on his hairy feet onto every seat in the car and he is 13.5 so no hope of improvement with age. But Dex could get his 10kg terrier body out of cat flap, hence my cats have been doing a limbo manoeuvre for years to use "modified" facilities. Doubt Percy would get them long legs out of it in a hurry but maybe wrong, they do them upto Collie size so worth a Google.

Thanks Ari i will google it and see, we have tried quite a few so far but he always gets out of them. Percy loves to be warm and puts himself to bed inbetween the quilt and cover so hes warm and toasty , sometimes though he gets stuck in there and you find a walking quilt. I can just picture Dex and the catflap , my OH won,t let me have a catflap, maybe not the best idea with Percy being in the house |

Sab that dog is lucky to have you! He and I would have fallen out over the wholesale destruction! I have a Ruff wear one that is very sturdy, I put that on an escaping lurcher, even though it was a little loose around the neck she couldnt get it off but it is designed to clip into a climbing harness http://www.innerwolf.co.uk/new-ruffwear-webmaster-harness.html |

SuziQ that looks a good one, i like the fact it has a bit to fasten futher back as well as round the girth, this mat stop him wriggling out, The last one we got is fab but hes got out of it twice now. Its my birthday at the beginning of feb so looks like i may be getting a harness will be worth every penny if it works. Going to order him a grey one in l/xl as hes a 33 girth. |

The halti has a connecting piece that attaches from the halti to the collar is case they wriggle out. I use this piece from the harness to the collar so if they do manage to slip the harness they are still attached by the collar, even though the harness is hanging there too lol. It works for my border terrier |

Misshana when i walk him i have his halti harness and halti on and do the same as you, hes got getting the halti off to a fine art and got the harness off as well one day , hes so naughty. Well his new harness has arrived today , my OH has it at work and will bring it home tonight, we got the one SuziQ suggested. The snows falling in a blizzard at the min so should be fun trying it out later on after tea, maybe we should attach it to a sledge the rate the snows coming down, hope it melts quickly |

Lol.. it appears to be snowing in your house Sab
Does he manage to shred vet bed too? A industrial sewing company near me,,sewed two pieces together sized to fit the bottom of the bed..which is basically what tuffies make to fit in the bottom of their plastic bed liners...which are very cosy! |

SuziQ the last time we had vetbed he ate it , little bits kept coming out in his poo , he had a Tuffies bed and chewed that but i see they now make covers for them, Its been snowing again today , i love him to bits but boy hes hard work. Just had a call from our neighbour to ask if i had looked outside, the w*****S who work on the estate that owns the moor where we live are heather burning, so why the f*** have they set light to the heather at the back of our property just as its getting dark, bl***y great flames and nobody to be seen, they are such morons. Ha Ha somebody has phoned the fire brigade and the fire engine has arrived just as i am typing this, i hope they get charged for it. |
